In an effort to get you to know us a little better, we'll be showing you what we're currently reading or will be reading! To do so, we ask ourselves the following questions:
What are you currently reading?
Why did you pick it up?
Would you recommend it? If yes, to who?
What rating would you give it out of five stars?
Megan:
- Never Have I Ever by Joshilyn Jackson
- I was browsing in The Mysterious Bookshop in Tribeca and the cover grabbed my attention. The description sounded interesting so I thought I would take the chance.
- Yes; I was pleasantly surprised that the plot kept me guessing; often times I am able to figure out the twists and turns, but this one kept me on my toes (figuratively of course, since I am currently nursing a fractured ankle). I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys mystery/thrillers. Often times authors seem to be in a bit of a hurry to wrap everything up at the end, but I didn't find that to be the case with Never Have I Ever.
- Never Have I Ever: 5/5 stars
Karen:
- First Girl Child by Amy Harmon
- I picked this book because it was by an author who's work I LOVE and I needed to read something I knew I would enjoy as the last book I read was challenging. I actually have purposely not read all of Amy Harmon's books so that I always have something to look forward to. Luckily this author continues to create stories and release books, so hopefully I will never run out of her novels.
- I would recommend this book to readers who like fantasy or science fiction, but also anyone who enjoys stories that have lessons to learn nestled inside the obvious story (i.e. this story is based on a Norse legend, but I certainly am able to draw parallels to situations and events in my own life and the current state of affairs in our world).
- I would give this book 5/5 stars. I was sad when it ended, but happy when I read the acknowledgements where the author said she would be setting more stories in this world that she created.
Olivia:
- Boom Town by Sam Anderson
- Having grown up in Oklahoma City, I heard about the book Boom Town but I wasn't sure if it would be a worthwhile read or just tell me facts about OKC that I already knew. While I was at the Brooklyn Book Festival, a great bookseller from Community Bookstore couldn't have been more enthusiastic about it, saying "It's like a long love letter to Oklahoma City." After that, I was sold.
- I'm definitely biased, but I highly recommend this book. For anyone remotely interested in history, sports, and stories about the underdog, Boom Town offers a great look at the unlikely creation of OKC and its tumultuous history.
- Boom Town: 4.5/5 stars
Ashley:
- Again, But Better by Christine Riccio
- The author of Again, But Better is a popular Booktuber that I enjoy watching, so I wanted to support her debut novel. The book's plot and main character sounded like something I could relate to a lot at this point in my life.
- I highly recommend Again, But Better. The characters are dynamic and relatable, especially for college students transitioning into full-blown adult status. College-age women will identify with Shane's anxiety over school, social skills, and love.
- Again, But Better: 4/5 stars

Fall in NYC can be a wonderful time, when it finally arrives. We are ready for the crisp leaves to crunch beneath our feet, ready for apple cider donuts, and ready for the hot chocolates we will consume while curled up with a book from our "to read" pile. We hope you have a wonderful start to your fall, wherever you are!
See you next month,

We're an independent publisher based in New York City. We publish a mix of non-fiction and fiction titles, with about 15–20 new titles each year. Since 2007, we've published four New York Times bestsellers: If I Did It by the Goldman Family, Hide!!! by Jeff Foxworthy, The Comeback by Consumer Electronics Association President Gary Shapiro, and One Nation Under Taught by Dr. Vince M. Bertram.
At Beaufort Books, we favor a collaborative process in which the publisher and the author work together to create a beautiful book and design unique publicity, marketing, and sales plans that makes sense for each individual book.
