Natural.
Looking younger is a given, but of all the results people want from a facelift, it’s ones that are natural. As we age, the skin grows lax and loose. This is a normal part of the aging process, and, of course, part of the problem that can be corrected with a facelift.
But too many facelifts take on a plastic, unnatural look, a look more frozen and stiff, tight and taut—but not in a healthy-looking way. It’s a look we all know well, more pulled back than refreshed.
As far as Dr. Tenley Lawton is concerned, it doesn’t have to be that way.
The SMAS Facelift
The general SMAS facelift, still considered one of the best types of facelifts—the gold standard, if you will—refers to the technique the surgeon uses that addresses the top layers of the skin—three top layers of fatty tissue, to be exact. SMAS, which stands for Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System refers to the fibrous extensions that attach through the subcutaneous fat layers of the face to the epidermal (outermost) layer of the skin. These fibers, like gossamer, let these triple layers of facial skin move and animate as a whole. Some doctors describe it as “the fatty tissue you can pinch.”
The general SMAS facelift cosmetically corrects the appearance by adding a definition back to the face, thus allowing for a more refreshed appearance.
The High SMAS facelift does even more.
