Dear Kirstjen Nielsen: child abuse is a crime too, you racist piece of garbage

Unpopular opinion: I never cared for John Oliver’s recurring bit about how everything was “rock bottom,” and each and every day in Trump’s America was some new under-layer of rock bottom. I didn’t like that bit because I have always felt a sense of dread and impending doom, and I’ve always known in my heart: there is no bottom. There is nothing keeping us from free-fall in this petty dictatorship. America’s leaders are either senile, crazy, complicit, treasonous or all of the above. American policy right now is to rip babies from the arms of their mothers. American policy right now is to put small children in cages and mock them for crying for their parents.

Meanwhile, Homeland Security Chief Kirstjen Nielsen spent the past three days lying her ass off about Trump’s policy of throwing children into cages in concentration camps on American soil. Nielsen first lied this weekend when she tweeted: “We do not have a policy of separating families at the border. Period.” Then 24 hours later, suddenly it was a policy or a law or something, but goddamn if she knows but she will enforce it with vigor. Then on Monday this f–king a–hole gave a press conference that was full of lies and bullsh-t. She said the footage of children being kept in cages were nothing more than “hearsay stories” and that separating more than 2000 children from their parents is not a “policy,” because these idiots love semantic arguments more than they love white supremacy. She also repeatedly called all immigrants “criminals,” because I guess this bitch doesn’t realize that A) it’s not against the law to seek asylum and B) CHILD ABUSE IS A CRIME TOO. I’m not even going to put the video here, because if I have to listen to her voice one more time, I am going to physically harm someone.

For what it’s worth, Senator Kamala Harris is trying to get Nazi Barbie fired.

And in case it wasn’t clear enough, the GOP is more than happy to toss out a few blonde white women to be the faces of Trump’s policy. Donald Trump is a coward, Paul Ryan is a coward, John Kelly is a coward. Mitch McConnell is a coward. They’re all too f–king chicken sh-t to put their faces to the policy that puts babies in cages. And then they’ll send Ann Coulter out there to further stir up the crazies:

Yes, on the right-wing propaganda channel which Donald Trump mainlines like crack cocaine, Ann Coulter looked into the camera and said that weeping children were “child actors.” There is no bottom. And we’re in free fall.

    • DesertReal says:

      I’m right there with you.
My only comfort in this is daydreaming about Kamala Harris running for president in the next election, and all these people sitting in front of an International Criminal Court hearing in the near future.

      • Aaliyah says:

As a foreigner who lives here but has also lived in Africa, Asia and the UK, I can confidently say that most Americans are absolutely not equipped to deal with this current govt. They do not have the range. With the exception of perhaps black people and other disenfranchised minorities, the American majority has been in a cocoon of exceptionalism for decades. They are not vigilant, they can’t wake up to what all of this means and think they’re insititutions will save them. The truth is, they won’t. To anyone who has been paying attention they would notice that this has been building up since the Nixon administration. It’s the same players behind the scenes and deep down Americans are not ready to give up their comforts to deal with the rot in their midst. The majority is paralysed with fear and helplessness. This is going to get worse. I hate to sound like a debbie downer but I don’t think most Americans realize what kind if danger their nation is in. I was shocked when people were still coming to Ivanka Trump and Sarah H Sander’s defense little less than a couple of weeks ago. It’s terrifying to see how little “polite society” and “both sides of the argument” Americans are able to comprehend this danger.

      • Lala says:

Thank you Aaliyah!!! As a Black woman…the ONLY thing that is surprising to me about ANYTHING that’s going on with the treasonous, inhumane Republican party or their voters is the fact that it took THIS long for the infection to break through the skin…because the party and its elected leaders have ALWAYS showncase these behavior…just on smaller scales….

      • ElizabethL says:

Hi Aaliyah, as an American living abroad I see the same thing as you. I don’t think anything will happen to the current government as long as folks have jobs and money. Tragedy is not a prevalent part of the overall national psyche in the US, and there isn’t any collective memory in regard to taking action. Truly, Americans have been bought off by comfort, gizmos, the MSM and the fallacy of the economy. There is an entitled arrogance that brings about the continual slow eroding of freedom in the US.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

Aaliyah (beautiful name….meaningful, yes?) … I agree with you too, as an American living abroad as well. (ElizabethL, same.) Even Americans who believe themselves to be decent, progressive and broad-minded do not seek out the information they need, comfort themselves with glib denials, and insist on thinking that it can’t happen there — or to them. We saw this during the Bush years and it went from there. It’s both horrifying and infuriating, and very hard to break through. There are both bunker and bubble mentalities, and both are impenetrable.

      • Christina says:

        Alliyah, you are spot on.

    • Swack says:

Mine too! It’s going to get really messy with all the brain matter scattered around from exploding heads!

    • Megan says:

According to Trump the economy is soaring and unemployment is at a record low. So how is it that these asylum seekers are hurting our economy and taking our jobs?

    • Tiffany :) says:

I keep hearing the Rachel Maddow phrase from election night:
“this is us, this is our country – it’s real”.

While we agonize over the treatment of these children, there are many of our neighbors who are celebrating it. I’m so ashamed of us.

      • Lee says:

I completely agree. I am ashamed that there are so many people out there supporting this nut job and the rest of his criminal gang. I have come to the point where I can’t read the news anymore because I become so upset. So I place my energy and efforts to good use. Donating to democratic candidates in my area and placing banners showing my support. I also donate to causes that are important to me and I sign petitions to encourage change. I am also a card carrying member of the ACLU now, and make donations.
It will take decades for us to recover from this narcissistic parasite.

  2. French Girl says:

In two weeks,Trump’s supporters gave 3 different reasons to justify this.Bible.Obama.Fake news.
    🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢🤢
They have no shame no decency and I hope to Trump and co a cancer for all the evil that they are doing

    • Kitty says:

I wasn’t expecting them to move onto the “child actors” thing yet…it seems like every time something horrible involving children happens in the US, Fox News turns it in to a crazy conspiracy

      • ORIGINAL T.C. says:

I’m crossing my fingers and hoping the press doesn’t fall for another Republican trick and try to “disprove” that these kids are NOT child actors. By trying to disprove the ridiculous all they do is end up repeating *child actors* so the easily distracted public will walk away with the words in their consciousness. They will start to believe the lie. It’s propaganda psychology 101. Anne Coulter is evil but not stupid.

Just focus on interviewing the detainees seeking asylum and continue to call Trump the liar in chief.

      • Emily says:

Can we start calling the parade of blonde women treason actors? If anyone is acting it’s them. Because they know everything they say is a lie with purpose to deceive.

      • Otaku fairy says:

That actually shocked me too. We’re all used to Ann Coutler being a garbage person, but that was unexpected.

    • Milla says:

      Bible?
Oh Obama and fake news is so common now. Blame it on either or both. Transparent…

  3. Alyse says:

Oh it’s barbaric. I’m not American and don’t know much about your immigration policies, but I just can’t believe this is happening over there.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

It is absolutely barbaric: it’s torture. Child abuse is torture. And it tortures the parents as well. Stephen Miller, John Kelly, Donald Trump and the entire Republican Congressional apparatus are torturers *and they like it.*

Just so you know, this is an entirely new policy created for the purposes of terrorizing an entire population, stirring the racist feelings of Trump’s base, and warning Americans that if they don’t get into line, they could be next. It is not based in law (though it could be – anyone can write a terrible law and then claim terrible acts are legal).

  4. CidyKitty says:

This just… I’m so appalled. I dont even have words. Actually I do: f**k these nazi’s.

  5. RBC says:

    Just sickening

  6. OriginalLala says:

calling whole ethnic groups “animals”, separating parents from children, numbering people, keeping people in camps.. we have seen where this leads before…Im sick to my stomach.

And while we Canadians think we are immune to this, the right wing anti-immigrant politicians are starting to win, first with Doug Ford in Ontario and now the right/anti immigration party in Quebec (CAQ) is leading in the polls for the fall election…. I hate this.

    • KeWest says:

As a fellow Canadian I am going to add my two cents.

Doug Ford is trash but he only got in due to Liberal corruption and Quebec is another story.

The US is a giant mess but their problems are unique to themselves.

      • OriginalLala says:

sure the US in unique, but there is a growing right, and an emboldened anti-immigrant faction in our country. Why, just yesterday a Mosque was fire bombed in Alberta so I respectfully disagree with what you are saying.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

Thank you Original Lala. I’m a dual citizen of Canada and the United States, and see “it can’t happen here – ism” in Canada the way I saw it in the United States 5-10 years ago. There is no protection from fascism without the united action of a people committed to pluralism and democracy.

The first racist/religious mass shooting after Trump was elected took place in Quebec city at a mosque.

I’m in S. Ontario and there are plenty of ‘hidden’ racists who will feel free to come out of the shadows now.

      • Darla says:

It’s a growing global fascism, and it’s terrifying. I wish I still believed Canada is safe from this, because that was my escape hatch. I don’t know where’s safe anymore.

    • Erinn says:

No offense to celebitches living in Quebec – but the anti-immigration sentiment has been loud for some time now. This is nothing new. I have some family members living in Quebec – over 60. The kind of hateful garbage that they share on facebook and the amount of their friends that agree is scary.

Doug Ford is a piece of garbage though. I love that after the clusterf— that was Rob Ford they find it appropriate to put another Ford in control. On top of the absolute uneducated hatred that he promotes … he’s also been ripping against sex education in schools. So I’m sure that’ll go super well.

I’m having a really hard time when it comes to any upcoming votes. The Liberals in NS have caused a LOT of issues. They HATE unions. They despise them. And they’ve had no issue being absolute little shit heads who lash out at any industry who speaks out against them. They’ve crippled health care, crippled education, and they continue to act incredibly vindictively. Stephen McNeil is not someone I’m capable of voting for.

      • OriginalLala says:

I’m a born and bred Quebecer (though in my adult life I spent over 15 years living in NL, NS and PEI), and I’m the daughter of immigrants so I know first hand the anti-immigration sentiments in quebec 🙁

because of that… I am not looking forward to the provincial election in the fall…it honestly terrifies me.

      • Cate says:

I was also born in Quebec, to immigrant parents, in the early 1980s. My parents ultimately left because of the anti-immigration sentiments. Essentially my father could see that his career was going to stall if we chose to stay. So we moved to the US where the opportunities were better. They kept in touch with quite a few friends from their Quebec days (all immigrants as well). Most have moved to other parts of Canada or to the US. The ones who did not largely saw what my father feared would happen to him—it just became very hard for them to get ahead professionally. These are all well-educated professionals with very valuable skills (engineers, mathematicians, etc.). I can’t imagine what it would be like for someone who doesn’t have that kind of “value”.

      • Lee1 says:

        @OriginalLala
I have felt sick to my stomach every single provincial election since I moved to Quebec at 18yrs old. In my current job, I interview ageing people in their homes and the shit I have had to listen to is truly horrifying. I also grew up in Manitoba where anti-indigenous sentiment wasn’t even hidden away. It was just out in the open. I am white, but I have been mistaken for first nations many times in my life (once even at customs and immigration) and it has never been during a positive interaction. I have never been under the illusion that we are safe from these horrors here and the fact that so many seem to think we are only further underscores how vulnerable we actually are. I think we’re just lucky it hasn’t happened yet.

That said, my mother lives in the US and we have plane tickets to visit her for a week on Saturday. The whole trip is making me sick. It just doesn’t seem appropriate to visit in the current climate (and certainly not to spend tourism dollars), but it is family. I just don’t know how to make peace with it right now.

    • Scotchy says:

As a beige Canadian and daughter of immigrants ( African and European) from the west the anti immigrant sentiment has been in Canada for a long long time, as has rampant racism. It is just done in a more insidious and gaslighting fashion where racist things will happen and the perpetrator will spend loads of time convincing you they weren’t being racist. Those sentiments are all up in our governments federally and now I see Ontario and Quebec are starting to turn as well.
We in BC finally got rid of a horrible provincial conservative government, but it’s still a mess.

Those folks that think this sort of thing can’t/won’t happen in Canada are wrong. There is white privilege up here and there is systemic racism up here. It’s starting to bubble over and we as Canadians need to start becoming active and holding our representatives accountable.

      • OriginalLala says:

exactly Scotchy – all of us Canadians need to start taking a stand or we will go down a slippery hateful slope, it’s already begun

      • Lady D says:

Scotchy, I asked you this about a year ago, but I don’t think you saw my question. Please, what is a beige Canadian?

    • Tania says:

The racism in Canada is just as insitutionalized as the racism here in the US. Look at the incarceration rates – not just those found guilty – but those that awaiting trial. Look at the 1,000’s of missing and murdered Indigenous women and children.

Look at the pipeline they want to build through the provinces of BC & Alberta that need “duty to consult” and they’re not consulting because, “National Interests.”

The only thing different between what’s happening in the states and Canada is Trudeau. Canada’s election is next year and when you have conservative MP’s high fiving each other over voting no on UNDRIP, you’re not that far removed from the US is facing.

Don’t do what Americans did and wait. Demand changes and speak out now. ESPECIALLY if you’re a white person with all of the advantages at your disposal. Go stand on Burnaby mountain with water protectors fighting the pipeline. Talk with your MP. Don’t let that racist aunt or uncle say whatever they want without calling them on it. Don’t let these animals live in the sun.

  7. lightpurple says:

Kirstjen Neilsen is NOT enforcing any existing laws. Statutory laws are passed by both houses of Congress and signed by a President or Congress overrides a presidential veto. There is NO statute requiring this. Regulatory laws are passed when a federal agency proposes regulations, based upon enforcing a statute, and the proposal goes through a public comment process and notice in the Federal Register. That didn’t happen either. The people arriving at the border have broken NO laws.

Call, write, email everyone. Burn through the White House phone lines. Burn through the DHS phone lines. Contact your Senators and your Representatives AND your Governors and local officials. Why y our governors? Because they can refuse to send state national guard units to Nielsen to help her with this madness. Yesterday, Massachusetts’s Republican Governor Charlie Baker stood up against Nielsen and canceled the deployment of a Massachusetts National Guard helicopter unit to the border. More governors can and must do so.

  8. Nellyy says:

    This is America

  9. Betsy says:

I can’t bring myself to listen to the audio. WHAT is wrong with people? Who thinks this is an idea worthy of execution? Although that’s a question with two meanings – I think that this is an act of willful cruelty and a crime against humanity and the architects of the plan should be prosecuted and the death penalty should be on the table.

They’re being traumatized so that Donald can get his wall. They’re bargaining chips. And I am not okay with it and I will be calling both my senators and my representative and the White House today and I urge every commenter here to do the same.

    • lightpurple says:

Call your governor too and demand that any plans to send your state national guard be canceled immediately.

      • Stella in NH says:

Charlie Baker, the republican Massachusetts governor refuses to send his national guard. A reasonable republican.

      • lightpurple says:

I’m surprised Charlie hasn’t left the party but he needs to stand up more. A lot more. This is a good start.

      • Kitten says:

I’ve never cared much for Baker but I am proud of him for taking a stand AND for representing the PEOPLE of Mass, not just the conservatives.

  10. Nina says:

Trump is the closest thing to a dictator we will ever see in this country. I honestly can see how this evolved now in Germany. Trump would lock up the press if he could get away with it, take my word for it.

    • Me46 says:

I think certain journalists will be the next ones.

    • Rescue Cat says:

Closest thing so far. If the issuess that contributed to his rise are not addressed it’ll get worse.

    • grabbyhands says:

Prepare yourself. This is just the beginning.

45 may not be Mr Popularity with the entire country, but he doesn’t care because he has a solid base that will support him no matter what and more importantly, no one is stopping him. He’ll continue to push and push and we think this is bad now – I’m pretty sure he has worse in store.

    • Tootsie McJingle says:

After locking children in cages, what’s to stop him from locking up the press too? Obviously the GOP doesn’t care.

    • Ahmed says:

“Trump is the closest thing to a dictator we will ever see in this country.”

      You are so naive.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Not yet, he hasn’t fully got rid of democracy in the US yet but he will and that’s clearly what he wants to do – he wants to be Emperor, he wants to be like Putin and Kim, he’s said so on several occasions.

Its only a matter of time before he tears up the constitution. GOP and his base will let him, as thats what they want. They have control of both houses and they are not prepared to lose it.

  11. Beth says:

She had my blood boiling when she was smiling and denying that this was child abuse. Disgusting

    • Astrid says:

The smirking after every lie was infuriating!

    • pix says:

Oh that evil squint and smile. I wish someone would sit her down and tell her that her name will forever be associated with this stain on American history. No job or amount of power is worth it. These Trump staffers are the absolute worst or the worst.

    • Frida_K says:

I hate her voice–a combination of whininess and vocal fry that is repugnant. And she is that much more ugly when she gets her self-pitying expression, where she looks exhausted and red-eyed and about to cry.

If there’s any justice, she’ll be sniveling and crying at The Hague in front of an international court one of these fine days. I’ll bet she will say, without a trace of irony, that “I was only following orders!”

All the tears the children are shedding? I hope she one day will shed ten times that number.

  12. Millennial says:

Good catch on using the white women to send this message. The men are too afraid to do it themselves.

Most disgusting to me is all these folks that are essentially blaming the parents for our country’s abuse of their children. Like, maybe we just don’t abuse the children, regardless of whatever we believe their parents to be “guilty” of?

    • Renee2 says:

There’s also the fact that the US often has had a hand in creating the political and economic instability that exists in these Nations, and frequently has had a hand in suppirting the brutal governments that commit these violences.

  13. Purplehazeforever says:

You can’t cross the border at unauthorized checkpoints but separating children from their parents is just cruel. I’m surprised the Dept of Homeland security is making the distinction about ports of entry for asylum seekers…I wasn’t aware of that.

    • Sedanos says:

Asylum seekers are permitted to seek out border agents and claim asylum, even if they are not at authorized checkpoints, under the law. The claim that asylum can only be claimed at authorized checkpoints is horses**t.

    • badrockandroll says:

And let’s be quite clear … potential asylum seekers are deliberately being slow-walked at authorized checkpoints, to the point where there are hundreds of families lining up to do what they are supposed to do. And when it looks like it will take days to clear that lineup, families who have been sleeping on pavement on a bridge may be tempted to walk around it to get into the USA and seek a border patrol in order to make their claims. For years this activity has been a misdemeanour, but it is now being treated as a felony, which means that DHS marches the adults off to court and the kids off to who knows where. And I want to hear a judge blast DHS/ICE for treating a first time offender of a victimless crime that has historically been a misdemeanour as a felony.

      • Purplehazeforever says:

I’m aware of that and that they are being denied entry. I was very surprised she just made the distinction. Many Immigration lawyers are…too…

    • BearcatLawyer says:

Read 8 USC section 1158 and the accompanying regulations. One does not have to apply for asylum only at a border port of entry. In fact if by chance an asylum seeker does make it to a border POE (which is not always easy or smart to do along our southern border with Mexico), CBP usually tells them to come back tomorrow – they are too busy.

      • Purplehazeforever says:

I thought it was odd…a few of my friends practice immigration law & I was going to ask. Thank you for clearing it up.

  14. BlueSky says:

Then this b@tch had the f@cking nerve to call out the parents who send their kids unsupervised or with strangers to cross the border and argues “how is that not child abuse?” Really b@tch??? These kids are being recruited by drug dealers and the parents are trying to save their a$$es!

  15. Annie says:

Barbaric, sickening, horrifying. Call your representatives and keep calling every day until this ends.

    • lightpurple says:

Call your governors too and demand that they refuse to deploy your state national guard to the border.

  16. hnmmom says:

F*ck these people. I want them all arrested and sent to trial at The Hague. I heard KKKeebler Elf Sessions is being brought up on charges by the United Methodist Church.

  17. grabbyhands says:

Not that this country ever really held the moral high ground on this type of thing because let’s face it, out country was basically founded on demonizing, exploiting and eventually terrorizing and destroying marginalized groups – even when they were here first, even when we forced them to come here.

But wow, we’ve really sunk to the depths now. We’re officially the bad guys we used to fight. I don’t even know how to be surprised anymore that it took us less than two years to be in this state, that we’re doing this to families, to children and a sizable number of people are okay with it. That they’ll believe that these children are acting. How f*cking evil do you have to be to say that or believe it?

If the Dems don’t pull something out at the mid-terms, we’re done. There’s no going back from this and right now not enough people are horrified by what they see. People who continue to whine about purity tests of the candidates, who are throwing tantrums because their person didn’t make the cut, who are not voting or are throwing their vote away to “make a point” are all complicit.

I hope morons like Susan Sarandon are happy – this is what their posturing helped buy us. Not a revolution. The last hurrah of democracy.

    • IlsaLund says:

My biggest fear is that people will once again sit out the upcoming mid term elections, the GOP will solidify its power even more, and they will be even more merciless in inflicting damage to “others.” So many people still don’t get it. Forget the litmus and purity tests, this is about survival of our country. There’s no going back if the Rethugs continue in power.

    • Yvonne Ramos says:

      Well said!!

    • Giddy says:

Yes, that Bernie romance is biting us in the a$$. Thanks Susan ever so much.

    • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

Don’t just blame the woman. Put the blame on Bernie, too, for not getting HIS supporters behind Hillary! HE is even more to blame!

  18. Jay says:

Trumps approval rating is currently tied for his all time highest. Outside of our bubble, people love this crap. That’s what really gets me and makes me not want to get out of bed.

    • Millennial says:

It’s super depressing. I used to think most people were good people, but not anymore. I’ve had to cut a lot of #MAGA people out of my life and it’s the biggest reason we won’t move to my husbands home town, despite how much more help we would get with our children. I can’t have my children growing up thinking these values are normal.

      • Isabelle says:

There is an advantage in growing up poor (I grew up poor), realizing early on people aren’t good and act out of selfishness. Poverty teaches you that and makes you cynical, but at the end of the day, people no longer surprise you.

    • GreenBunny says:

To be fair, Nate Silver said that the current the approval rating was polled during that sh*t show of a “summit” when the idiots thought he was doing actual good. They haven’t polled his approval ratings after this current crisis, so I’m hoping that his numbers go down again, once the morons on the fence about him start to realize this is entire administration is an atrocity (again).

    • Kitten says:

That is not exactly true, Jayna. 67% of Americans think the family separation policy is inhumane and barbaric. The problem is that the GOP only governs for the small, extremist minority of their constituency, not for the American people as a whole and not even for their entire district, which is almost always a mix of left and right, even if majority right-leaning.

They have never cared to seek bipartisan support because they don’t GAF about the American people–they only care about getting reelected and retaining power.
Plus, bipartisanship and compromise is hard; sticking together to enforce a hard line is much easier. They are lazy, callous, and selfish.

      • Isabelle says:

The thing we really need to remember they vote, they always vote. It is why they have power and win elections. They don’t have to care because they win elections even in non-gerrymandered elections.Americans have given them power because most Americans don’t vote and don’t participate in their community. When any voting populace is apathetic and allow these hate groups to rise, they gain power and their egos become super inflated.

      • Kitten says:

Yes and they also have a constituency that skews older and whiter than the left. It’s easier for retired white folks to get to the polls.

Also, I just saw a Pew report on Twitter that said 73% of Americans favor legal status for immigrants brought to US as children.

        http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/06/18/americans-broadly-support-legal-status-for-immigrants-brought-to-the-u-s-illegally-as-children/

      • Parigo says:

Very well said Kitten. The deplorables did not win the election nor are they the majority. I think Americans constantly need to remind themselves that.

    • me says:

There are A LOT of people who think and act just like Trump. That’s why he won and will probably win again. It’s disgusting but there are way too many Americans who are narrow-minded and racist. Trump is their Jesus. That’s the truth.

      • Kitten says:

There’s really not, though. The most populated regions of the country are typically bluedog Dem.

That being said, even five people who support this shit stain is still too much,

      • anon says:

Trump did not win the elections, he was INSTALLED in the White House by a cabal of interests, national and foreign.

  19. IlsaLund says:

There are no words to express the disbelief in what’s happening. And sadly, it probably will get worse before it gets better.

And people wonder how terrorists are borne. Imagine how these acts can be used to further hatred against the U.S. and convince more people to take up arms against this country.

    • grabbyhands says:

      Exactly!

Want to know how terrorists are created? This is how. Terror organizations around the world are kicking back watching the World Cup right now because the US president is doing their work for them. They don’t even have to put effort into grooming people because all anyone has to do is turn on the news and listen to him and the rest of his cabal describe desperate families as animals and their job is done.

The gross thing is, even if this group of monsters is ushered out at the end of this term, it will be too late. The damage is being done and we’ll all get to deal with the payback.

    • Ladykeller says:

This is my thought too. I hope America is prepared to face a wave of terrorism coming from the south in the coming decades. Many of these kids will grow up hating Merica. Think illegal immigrants are bad, wait til they start bombing your stupid wall. It’s one thing to deny them asylum and deport them, it’s another to cage them like animals and dehumanize them. I have no doubt some of these kids are going to grow up angry and looking for revenge.

So much of what these people are fleeing from is directly or indirectly atrrtibutable to American foreign policy and interference in central America.

      • Kitten says:

Good thing we’ve slashed all the coffers that provided social welfare to the American people in favor of an absurdly bloated military budget and border patrol funding. The senate just passed a $716B defense spending bill.

Honestly, terrorism and war are the least of my worries right now.

      • IlsaLund says:

Anyone else think this new “Space Force” idea is just a ruse to increase the military budget and continue the welfare for the military industrial complex?

      • Kitten says:

@Islalund-this is EXACTLY what my BF and I were speculating yesterday. That, and it’s a shiny object to temporarily distract people.

  20. Ninks says:

The audio of the children crying is the saddest, most heartbreaking thing I have ever heard. If I was an American, I would be out on the street protesting. It shows how much their evil behaviour has been normalised and ordinary citizens are becoming desensitised by one horrible, appalling thing after another that this hasn’t prompted mass protests already.

    • Lady D says:

It’s keeping me from sleeping. I’m waking up 5-6 times a night and those children are on my mind every time. I was ready to hop a plane to Texas yesterday, I want to help those children. Their parents must be going out of their minds. I wonder if cursing people really works…..

      • BearcatLawyer says:

You do not need to come to the border. These kids are being transferred all over the US and will need help with their asylum cases.

Here is one way you can help right now: https://www.theyoungcenter.org/volunteer-at-the-young-center/

Also, Google and read 8 CFR section 1292.1(a)(3). You do not need to be a licensed attorney to represent someone in immigration court. Many organizations like Catholic Charities or YMCA International Services or Lutheran Social Services have lawyers and accredited representatives on staff who would love volunteers to help them put together cases for these kids and help out in court.

      • Christin says:

@Bearcat – Thank you got mentioning how the process works regarding representation. One of my concerns was whether any attorney could assist without being licensed in a given state.

      • Lady D says:

I’m Canadian, Bearcat. Can I help in other ways besides monetary donations and emailing the Prime Minister’s office to intervene? For the record, it looks like Trudeau is going to stay out of it for now.

      • BearcatLawyer says:

Lady D, you may have to think creatively. Certified translations of documents and research regarding country conditions and specific claims can be done via e-mail. Real-time interpreting may be done via Skype or Viber. But I believe you should continue to press your elected officials and the UN too.

    • Snowflake says:

We are not desensitized. We are appalled and outraged. But many work and have families, etc, etc. It’s not that easy to get out and protest. Most protests are scheduled on a Saturday. I work every Saturday. We also worry about losing our jobs if we were to be caught on camera protesting. We do care but it’s hard to know what to do about it. So much horrible stuff has happened without a peep from the government. 2 years ago, I would have NEVER thought trump would be able to do the things he’s done without getting taken out of office. Now, I realize they will do nothing and I feel like my only choice is to ride it out. If they haven’t taken him out by now, they never will. Imo, our only hope is for Trump to be found guilty of state criminal acts. Please, Mueller, save us

    • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

According to Renato Mariotti on Twitter (a former Fed. Prosecutor that I follow), there ARE protests being planned nationwide for June 30th. Check your local area; I’ve already signed up, and sent an email to everyone I know to come. Hope you all join in your area!

      https://act.moveon.org/event/families-belong-together/search/?

People, NOW IS THE TIME to get out there and make your voice heard!

  21. Giddy says:

Last night I listened to that audio of the children crying and felt so angry and heartbroken. Then I watched kristen/Nazi Barbie give her colder than ice explanation for treating these families like criminals and engaging in child abuse. When government officials ban all recordings etc. of an installation, then we can be sure that the law is being broken. Those families need to be reunited immeadiately.

  22. Lizzie says:

There is no word in the English language crude enough to describe this fetid shit stain woman.

  23. Tig says:

I always circle back to- where do they find these vile people? Even Sanders couldn’t pull this off, and thus we were treated to this latest Fox wannabe fembot. Have you guys read that volunteers are prohibited from touching the children??? I guess they use robot arms to change diapers. How heartless to you have to be to see a sobbing toddler and NOT reach out to comfort them??? And that horrible person who made fun of the children crying? At a minimum, fire him.

  24. HK9 says:

From the little I’ve seen of this, to me, the only reason to separate children from their parents, is to abuse the children. If you don’t want families to cross the boarder, you send the whole family back. It’s costs money to run those “camps” and Republicans don’t want to spend money for anything so as far as I’m concerned, we’re working against the clock to shut this thing down and make sure these kids don’t “disappear”.

  25. boredblond says:

I was wondering when they’d get around to saying this whole situation is ‘fake’ (the children are actors), but I guess it isn’t surprising considering another in trump’s army of sick supporters told his voters that the murder of children in Sandy Hook was fiction, those tiny coffins just props..There have to be more unofficial tapes and pictures – where are the little girls? – they must be terrified that faux would mistakenly show one.

    • Kitten says:

That guy (who’s name I shall not mention) also trotted out a theory that Anthony Bourdain was killed by the “Deep State” because he was about to “come out” as a Trump-supporter.
I mean, even just typing that out, I could feel myself getting dumber.

I know I’ve said this before but really need to stop referring to Trump-supporters as “stupid”–that is far too generous. They are willfully ignorant and they are extremely dangerous to our country.

      • IlsaLund says:

The willful ignorance happening is this country is astounding. People refuse to use critical thinking skills, research sources and just use the damn brains in their heads.

      • Kitten says:

Totally. It also is really alarming to see them parroting Trump and the GOP, when we know all these people do is lie. These people have become an army of propogandists, doing Trump’s bidding on social media and elsewhere.

  26. Ladykeller says:

How much longer until they start setting up camps in the country for Latinos who have legally immigrated or were born in America? Think it can’t happen in your country or that it couldn’t happen in this day and age, think again. All this propaganda is setting the stage. Calling Brown people dangerous, calling them animals, treating them like they are not human. This is all designed to try an normalize this type of treatment against our fellow human beings. This is Nazi level propaganda this sh*t going on right now. I am seriously terrified of what the end game is for these monsters.

  27. Kiki says:

Adolf Hitler is singing joy in the firing ptits oh hell. America is repeating history as we know it. Soon, it will be the WW3. Thanks USA, for voting President Idiot.

  28. Alarmjaguar says:

I feel so helpless and outraged, but keep calling and be sure you are registered to vote, and join the demonstrations on June 30

  29. Geekychick says:

it is official. us has become a new-Nazi state. I’m sorry it turned out like this, but the level of evil this choice of US president has and will unleash…
    t
IDK, IDK everything is terrible. Everything is burning. I’m crying for those children the last two days, I held myself together until the recording came out, but now I just can’t dissociate.
    those popr children. jesus. jesus.
thus is unfirgivable. actually, global stance on refugees tiday is unforgivable. I just…I just feel so heartbroken at the thought what kind of civilization and world did I bring my child into.
how can anyone assist in this and then go home to his family in peace?? how can they live with themselves?!
remember, Hitler would be nothing amd no one if he didn’t have people who were willing to follow him-and those who just watched from the sidelines and didn’t do anything.

    • Valerie says:

I really don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist (or Bobby Bacala), but didn’t Nostradamus predict something like this? The rise of a dictator, not unlike Hitler, who would bring about massive destruction and incite WWIII?

  30. Valerie says:

    Hmm, Kirstjen… Really American-sounding name you’ve got there…

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Hey, just a minute there, we just can’t do this. She may be a racist, fascist piece of s**t but we still have to take all kinds of names – including hers, which is Danish – as being American. She learned her racism and fascism in America.

  31. Veronica S. says:

I give monthly to the ACLU, but I feel like I need to do more about this. This is just terrifying in its portent of what’s to come.

  32. JaneFr says:

I read an analysis of the situation in a french journal. They plainly said that it’s basically chantage. Not against the immigrant parents but against the Democrats. The journalist said it is a “vote for my laws against immigration or be complicit in child abuse”.
And yes the facts that nobody stops him and that the Americans approval is high is noticed. Let’s just say that americans did not have the best reputation worldwide. Now it’s getting worse. i wonder how everything will turn, what the US will be like in the future, especially if it’s president and government pursue a sure to be lost economic war with Asia and Europe.

  33. ISSAQUEEN says:

America is under dictatorship. A large percentage of it’s population is ok with it and a bunch of others don’t even realize it. SMH.

  34. why? says:

I don’t understand why the WH press reporters keep showing up to these press briefings. They aren’t learning anything new and all the WH staff does is berate and lie to them. At some point the press has to stop this nonsense. We watched as Sarah berated Jim A and I was disappointed to see that none of the other reporters admonished her for this. Sarah used the Bible and there was very little push back, the best way to shut Sanders up would have been to quote the Bible about not lying and then talk about how she lies every time she opens her mouth. These reporters aren’t asking the right questions and their resistance to Sarah doesn’t last long. They need to boycott these WH press briefings, they can get the same information straight from the Dotard’s twitter account. Instead of helping Sarah put out more propaganda, they should use this time to focus on all the things that the Dotard and his administration have done to hurt this country. Like, why not go back to covering Puerto Rico? It would be much more productive than just sitting there, watching Sarah lie. Why not use this time to cover what Wilbur Ross is doing to the stock market? Why not use this time to cover how Lindsey G, Chuck G, and Trey G say one thing, but are behind the scenes working to hurt the Mueller probe? Why not use this time to discuss what Devin Nunes is doing and why Paul R allows him to go rogue? A part of the problem is that the press is still very complicit.

What is even more disgusting is that we see some people like Rachel M spinning the nonsense that Sarah is the victim. Last night Rachel M said that the press was beating up on her and that she can’t help what is going on because she just works for the Dotard. I was very disappointed in Rachel. Sarah is evil. She used the Bible to justify separating children from their parents. She lies about every little thing and then when she gets caught in a lie, she either tells another one or goes on the attack. She doesn’t deserve any sympathy.

This country is moving backwards. Instead of having hearings about these tent cities, republicans like Lindsey G and Ted Cruz were more concerned about Peter S texts to his mistress yesterday. Where is the accountability? Stop telling us that Lindsey G is speaking out on the Dotard, when Lindsey G is always doing the Dotard’s bidding.

I also wish that the press would pay more attention to these bots. The Dotard’s approval rating isn’t rising, the bots are messing with the polls. We have seen how many reports about these bots are causing havoc, but the press refuses to talk about them where it matters. The Dotard will have another 4 year term because no one is doing anything about the russian bots who got him elected.

I wish that people would stop saying that this is America. This has always been American(Japanese, Native Americans, Slaves; Germans Russians, and Italians were also forced into internment camps following the attack on Pearl Harbor), but people fought and gave up their lives to change these policies. And now here it is resurfacing in 2018. I never thought that something like this would ever happen again in this country.

    • Lightpurple says:

The best response to Sanders or Sessions quoting from the Bible to defend this is to calmly recite the First Amendment to the Constitution and politely ask why they have chosen to violate our laws.

    • Christin says:

I heard April Ryan and possibly one other reporter immediately tell SHS her comments to Jim were a low blow. April definitely called her out.

  35. HeyThere! says:

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ACTOR CHILDREN?! APPARENTLY 2-5 YEAR OLDS CAN READ SCRIPTS?! WTFO with that. This feels personal now. I’m beyond mad.

  36. Case says:

What kind of monster must one be to not be HORRIFIED by what is happening? The thought of the children in my family and friend group being separated from their parents, scared and abandoned, makes me want to vomit. I can’t believe this is happening. My ache with every fiber of my being for these families.

  37. HeyThere! says:

    https://www.aclu.org/issues/call-senators-stop-dhs-separating-children

This link will take you to the place to type in your phone number and it directs calls to your state officials and gives a small script of what to say. Just a few sentences. Do this over and over.

  38. me says:

Why are these kids being separated from their parents in the first place? Why can’t families be “detained” together? That is cruel. Some of these kids will get lost in the “system” and never be reunited with their parents again. I hope one of these kids is able to somehow stay in America and one day become President. Trump you are a f*cking piece of sh*t and so is ANYONE who voted for you !

    • Tiffany :) says:

I share your outrage. Families can be detained together, and they WERE detained together under previous administrations.

I think it is especially horrific that they are separating parents and children, then deporting the parents and keeping the kids in the US. WTF is up with that? How does that benefit ANYONE?

  39. ladida says:

“There is no bottom. And we’re in free fall.” Well said, it’s a tragedy.

  40. K2 says:

There’s a charity fundraiser on Facebook, to provide free legal representation to the affected families. I hope it’s okay to provide the link – the money goes directly to the charity, Facebook charge no fees, and they’re a registered organisation (neurotic, but I checked).

Horrifyingly, it appears there’s no legal requirement to provide even the separated children with state funded counsel. They are quite literally putting minors through legal processes without anyone retained to speak in their interests.

    https://www.facebook.com/donate/490507544717085/

  41. Payal says:

Maybe stupid question but does the federal government have the right to separate minors from a parent if the child is not in any danger from the parent? I can’t see how this is even legal

    • Sam the pink says:

Technically, it is legal because the parents are being charged with a crime. If a child is present during the commission of a crime, the child can legally be removed from the parent. That is what they are hanging this on. However, it is not legally required. That’s important. Yes, entering the county without authorization is a crime. But it’s a misdemeanor. Previous administrations either cited them and allowed them to go provided ice took their information or detained the family together while civil proceedings took precedence. There is nothing requiring this.

  42. hogtowngooner says:

Remember when some wacko tried to “investigate” the (fake) child abuse going on in a DC pizza parlor? Because “THINK OF THE POOR CHILDREN!” Crickets from that group when it either concerns non-white children, or can’t be used to embarrass Hillary.

First they came for “the illegals”…

  43. Laura says:

I think the separation of children from their parents is truly heartbreaking and awful 😔

That being said, I wonder how many illegals/asylum seekers the USA/Canada/Europe can take in when so many of their own citizens are stuggling? Why is there not a unified effort to improve the countries from which people are fleeing? The wealthier countries of the world cannot take in every single person who wants in so there has to be another way to help the people from nations that are corrupt/dangerous/poverty stricken.

I hope these kids are reunited with their families as soon as possible ❤

  44. JB says:

free fall. your words are accurate and f**king scary.

  45. Yup says:

Trump is literally using these children to try to force the democrats to agree to finance The Wall.

It is horrible. It is EVIL.
