Hercules Machine Tool & Die Expansion Powered by Electrex Industrial Solutions - 58 Years & Counting

Hercules Machine Tool & Die’s key to expansion over the last five decades has included an important fifty-eight year partnership with Electrex Industrial Solutions as their go-to industrial electrical contractor. Their partnership began in 1957, with Electrex founder Larry Page Sr. wiring buildings for an early Hercules expansion. The relationship has continued through Electrex’s second-generation leadership, and Electrex’s own expansion into industrial automation and controls for stamping presses, through its Rexcon division.

At the Hercules plant in Warren, MI, Rexcon wired and installed controls on a 4,000 ton Danly straight side stamping press with hydraulic cushions and four 1,000 ton underdrive presses. They are currently undertaking a massive upgrade of thirty tryout presses at Hercules and their sister company, Positive Industries. This project includes upgrading the wiring and controls to equip the tryout presses for production press capability — designed to meet increased demand for third-party production stamping requests from the auto industry.

Electrex Industrial Installed First Production Line for Tesla Model S

Electrical Contractor Detroit

In 2010, Tesla Motors hired an industrial electrical contractor to disconnect several pieces of machinery and install a stamping press line of five hydraulic presses at a recently purchased automotive plant in Fremont, California.

However, when complications arose with Tesla’s original electrical contractors, they turned instead to Electrex Industrial. Electrex was able to step up to the plate, installing the presses on time, meeting all deadlines, and exceeding Tesla’s expectations. The project was a great success for both companies and these stamping presses were the first line of machinery ever installed for the Tesla Model S.

Since then, the two companies have continued their partnership. Most recently Electrex retro-fitted an existing stamping press line, adding new controls. They took four-year-old presses, stripped the existing controls, and upgraded the automatic interface. Electrex also installed 3000 feet of lines, Ethernet cables, and customer supply controls as well as all electrical and mechanical piping and air lines at Tesla’s California plant.

In order to complete these projects, Electrex has had to rely on their controls and automation division, Rexcon. Established in 1988, Rexcon specializes in retro-fitting, upgrading, and installing PLC press controls as well as the design and manufacture of the RexTouch PalmButton.

As both Electrex Industrial and Tesla look to the future, there are plans to continue their historic partnership. As Tesla Motors continues to grow, more presses will need to be upgraded and installed and Electrex remains proud to serve them and be a part of this American automotive tradition.

Electrex Electrical Installation and Industrial Generators Detroit

Electrex Electrical Installation of Industrial Generator DetroitAre power outages costing you thousands or dollars?

Are blackouts stopping production, causing late deliveries, and even cutting profits?

Power outages may be a fact of life, but for businesses, they can be a serious handicap in your day-to-day production. Unplanned downtime can cost a business dearly every day, and getting back to full production may take longer than any business would want.

Electrex Industrial recently worked with Kuka Systems to help protect their business from outages and blackouts. When Kuka was affected by a blackout, they required a minimum of 5 hours to get back up and running. Five hours for a company like Kuka Systems can be devastating to their productivity, as well as their profits.

You can read the full story about Electrex’s work with Kuka here, but below is a quick guide to blackouts and how they affect business.

So, what do you need to know about blackouts?

1. Blackouts can affect your business long after the power comes back on.

How much can your business get done with the lights off and the machines not running? During a blackout, your company is on hold, which means your customers are waiting, your employees are stuck at a standstill, and you’re losing money every minute. All of this is happening as you are falling behind in your production and having to play catch-up while your customers wait.

2. 1 hour of downtime can actually mean several hours of losses

For every hour of downtime, you may be looking at several hours of costs. Not only are your machines unable to produce, but so are your employees, not to mention any unexpected costs from a blackout. Even a short blackout can take several hours of maintenance just to get your business up and running again.

3. They’re avoidable!

Emergency power is a key tool for your business. Blackouts are going to happen, and when they do, you can be prepared. Keeping the lights on and the lines moving means your business won’t skip a beat when other companies may be scrambling to get back online!
