Andrés Iniesta now second for all-time FC Barcelona appearances

Only Xavi Hernández (767) has played more than the midfielder, who made appearance number 594 in the Spanish Super Cup against Sevilla before being substituted due to injury in the first half

Andrés Iniesta has moved up to second in the list of all-time appearances for FC Barcelona after playing his 594th first team game in the Spanish Super Cup at Sevilla on Sunday night.

That figure is one more than Carles Puyol accumulated in his time at FCB, but the midfielder still has a long way to go before he tops the remarkable 767 competitive matches played by Xavi Hernández.

Iniesta made his first team debut in a Champions League match at Bruges on 29 October 2002 when he was just 18 years old. The Barça manager that night was Louis van Gaal and the number on his back was 34.

Fourteen years have passed since then, in which the midfield maestro has scored 53 goals in official outings. The first was in the Copa del Rey against Levante on 14 January 2004, while the most famous has to be his last minute goal to knock Chelsea out of the Champions League semi-final at Stamford Bridge in 2009.
