Miss USA pageant announces new hosts to replace Cheryl Burke, Thomas Roberts

The beleaguered Miss USA pageant has found two new hosts to replace Cheryl Burke and Thomas Roberts, who dropped out last week after pageant co-owner Donald Trump came under fire for offensive comments he made about immigrants.

Reelz TV, which picked up the pageant after NBC cut ties with Trump, announced on Tuesday that daytime TV presenter Todd Newton and former Miss Wisconsin USA Alex Wehrley will take over for Sunday’s show. OK! TV host Julie Alexandria is set to cover the show from backstage, taking the spot of Jeannie Mai, who announced on Monday that she, too was dropping out, saying, “it is clear that Mr. Trump’s actions have and will continue to distract focus away from the real stars of the show — the women involved in the pageant.”

Burke and Roberts announced their departures last week, weeks after Trump’s incendiary comments about illegal immigrants. “In light of the recent statements made by Donald Trump and the subsequent decision by NBC to cut ties with Mr. Trump, I cannot in good conscience move forward with participating in this year’s Miss USA Pageant as its co-host,” Burke wrote in her announcement.

Performer Flo Rida and judge Emmitt Smith quickly followed suit in bowing out of the pageant.

The Miss USA pageant airs Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on Reelz.
