Britain’s only 100% farmer owned co-op is reorganising its finances and this new plant will help to cut fuel costs, and feed the rest into the national gas network.

Lake District Creamery will become the first dairy processing site to do this.

The co-op has contracted Clearfleau to design, build and operate the bio-energy plant, which will generate 1,000m3 of bio-methane per day.

Chris Gooderham, business director at First Milk said “the new facility is an example of how we are continuing our turnaround plan, by saving costs and improving the operational efficiency of every corner of the business.”

The new plant will reduce energy costs by 25% and remove 7,000 tonnes of carbon annually from the supply chain.
