Somos Productions, Boomdog, Piñolywood Studios and Endemol Shine Latino have joined forces to produce the first-ever scripted drama series chronicling the most successful Latin boy band of all time, Menudo.
Subete a Mi Moto—The History of Menudo offers the story of how Menudo came to form, and their groundbreaking rise to success thereafter. Originally established in Puerto Rico during the 1970s by Edgardo Diaz, Menudo forever altered the Latin music landscape, launching numerous hit songs like “Quiero Ser” and “Claridad,” and the eminent music careers of Ricky Martin and Draco Rosa, among many others.
“There’s never been anything like Menudo in Latin music history, a band that’s success spans four decades and launched some of the biggest names in the industry,” says Laurens Drillich, President of Endemol Shine Latino. “Subete a Mi Moto—The History of Menudo will take viewers behind the scenes from the band’s Puerto Rican origins through its unprecedented global success.”
The first season of the series will focus on the origins of the band and their instantaneous rise to fame.

“There are musical phenomena that become well-known landmarks because of their impact both with their songs and stage presence, as well as for the richness of their personal experiences,” explains Luis Villanueva, President and CEO of SOMOS Productions. ”Menudo is one of such phenomena and its history guarantees the excitement and appeal of each of this series’ episodes.”
Menudo is one of the most paramount Latin boy bands in music history, releasing their first album in 1977. The band achieved record-breaking worldwide success during the 1980s, becoming the most popular Latin American teen music group of the era. The band would go on to achieve international triumph, taking Europe, North America and even Asia by storm.
Menudo was unlike many traditional boy bands in that they consisted of a lengthy list of members, as Diaz changed out a majority of them after they turned 16. Only after 39 male singers participated in Menudo’s global success did the group disband in 2009.
Somos Distribution and Endemol Shine Latino are currently in discussions with potential networks and platforms for the series. Stay tuned for more.
