Adoptions can be nerve-wracking, for both the adoptive parents as well as the hesitant child. This can be especially true when an orphan with special needs is adopted from abroad.

Luckily for one mom, meeting her adopted child from China proved to be love at first sight—for both her and the adorable little girl.

Dozens of foster families waited for the arrival of their special needs kids in a Texas airport, but the emotional response that this particular mom had when spotting Lucy walk through the doors is truly breathtaking.

Audrey Shook, her husband and her kids stood by patiently with signs covered in flowers and Lucy's name pasted onto the poster in bold. Shook got her other children riled up for the arrival of their new sister as tears filled her eyes in anticipation.

When the orphans from China started filing through the doors with suitcases in tow, the mom began trembling as she saw her new daughter Lucy appear in the crowd. Tears began to fall and she exclaimed, "There's Lucy!"

The 6-year-old was a bit apprehensive at first to meeting her new parent, but when Shook got down on her knees to look her in the eyes and say, "Hi! Hi! I'm Momma," no one expected the absolutely heart-melting response that would follow. Lucy mouthed "Momma" right back and came in for a big bear hug, which we can only imagine is one of many to come.

According to a USA Today article, Shook and her husband have been wanting to adopt a child from China for years, but when Shook got pregnant, that plan had to be put on the backburner. That is, until nine years later they saw a particularly cute video of Lucy in an orphanage. And the rest is history.

But unfortunately, not many parents seek to adopt children with special needs.

"These are the kids that are unwanted, they are the kids nobody else wants, they've been sitting on lists for their entire life or sitting in an orphanage," said Shannon Phillips, with Great Wall China Adoptions.

Audrey Shook's husband, Brent, feels differently.

"We don't see it as we are going to help her, we see it as she's going to help us with our lives," he said.

Although the agency only expects these foster families to take care of the orphans for four weeks, this family is already making preparations to fully adopt Lucy.
