Would You Book a Hotel Room That Hangs Off a Cliff?

The Skylodge Adventure Suites in Cusco, Peru, take glamping to a whole new level.

The new Skylodge Adventure Suites are not for the faint of heart. Three "capsule suites" are made from an aerospace aluminum and perch cliffside in the Sacred Valley in Cusco, Peru. Just to get to the suite, you have to ascend 400 feet up a mountain—with or without a guide, and with some help from a via ferrata (a steel ladder and cable system). You can come back down via a combination of hiking and ziplining. Either way, you'll need to wear a helmet.

The suites can accommodate up to four people per night.

Once you get to the suite, though, you'll experience the ultimate in eco-luxury. Each capsule has a dining area, four beds, and a private bathroom with a dry sink (water comes from a cistern, not a faucet) and toilet. It runs completely on solar power, down to the small reading lamps next to the beds. And although the bedroom is completely clear (it's made of a strong polycarbonate similar to ones used on space shuttles!) for people who want to enjoy sweeping views of the valley, there are curtains in case you want privacy. Your closest neighbor, though, is most likely a condor.

Even using the sink is exciting at this height.

If you are feeling curious—and brave—you can try out one of Skylodge's packages, which includes both breakfast and dinner as well as transfers from Cusco. The suites run from $1,000 per night.

Look up (way up): The suites, high above Sacred Valley, offer unobstructed views.
