Bidding On Brooks: The Winslow Brothers #1 (The Blueberry Lane Series -The Winslow Brothers) Kindle Edition
--Carly Phillips, NY Times Bestselling Author
Now a New York Times and USA Today bestselling series!!
Bidding on Brooks is the first of four books about the Philadelphia-based, wildly-handsome Winslow brothers who are all on the look-out for love.
(Except Preston. He's been down that road before and still has the scars to prove it. And maybe Cameron, because he's super hot, but too hot-headed to be decent boyfriend material...)
Railroaded into a bachelor auction by his sister, Jessica, Brooks Winslow asks his friend, Skye Sorenson, to bid on him to avoid the possibility of any romantic entanglements. Fiercely competitive and protective of those he cares for, Brooks was profoundly affected by the loss of his father at an early age. A witness to his mother's terrible loneliness and his siblings' grief, the ex-Olympian has never allowed himself to fall in love.
Skye Sorenson, the plucky mechanic at Sorenson Marina, where Brooks moors his three sailboats, is a credible sailor in her own right...and has quietly lusted after Brooks for years. But her longstanding friendship with Brooks has always made romance seem impossible. When Skye agrees to bid on Brooks, the two cast off for a weeklong ocean adventure on Brooks' sailboat, The Zephyr, where the last thing Skye expects to lose is her heart.
Return to the world created in the English Brothers books with this fresh foursome of scorching hot Winslow Brothers!

Editorial Reviews
Review
~"I usually close my reviews praising this author and her work, writing, characters, plots and overall knowledge of what women are looking for in a romance novel but I'm not going to do that with this one. If you haven't jumped on the Regnery Regatta (see what I did there? Boat reference! WINNING!) then my friend, (or enemy because you suck for not reading her books) you are MISSING OUT! You should have your face on a milk carton you're missing out so bad! If I were a doctor I'd prescribe you two Regnery's and call me in the morning." --Amanda Clark, Goodreads Review
~"Wow! I LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! Bidding on Brooks is Katy Regnery's first novel in her new Winslow Brothers' series...Once again, Ms. Regnery has captured my undivided attention from the inception of the story with this sweet and entertaining tale of love." --Tami Talbert, The Book Enthusiast
~"I love that Katy wrote these characters as if they were real people and I found myself loving them all the more because of it. If this is what to come with the rest of The Winslow Brothers I only hope she writes them very fast!!" --Tabitha, Amazeballs Book Addicts
~"I adored Brooks and Skye. I love that they weren't perfect, I love that their imperfections were something they had to learn to love about themselves and each other. I also love that, despite the fact that the cover looks innocent, this book packs some steam."--Give Me Books
~"What's not to like about Bidding on Brooks by: Katy Regnery? From the first page I was drawn into Brooks and Skye's adorable dance." --Isha Coleman, Goodreads

- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2015BIDDING ON BROOKS is the first book in the new spin-off series,The Winslow Brothers, written by the wonderful and creative author, Katy Regnery.
This book is mainly about friendship turning into all-consuming love and the transformation and journey that love takes one on when they are in its hands. And this beautiful story happens on the high seas. Brooks, the hero of this story, is the eldest brother of the Winslow clan. He is an ex-Olympian and trained sailor with a knack for keeping relationships, at least in terms of love, very casual. When his father dies tragically from a heart attack, Brooks has to take on the father figure to his siblings at a very young age. As the years pass, he always has at the back of his mind that he will meet the same fate as his dad. So Brooks vows to never fall in love or have a family of his own, so he will never leave them. So even with his name in magazines and newspapers and no matter how many races he happens to win, the reader knows Brooks leads a very lonely life without love.
The main heroine is Skye Sorenson, a sweet, down-to-earth boat mechanic at her father's local marina, who is more likely to be fixing a broken cleat on one of their prized sailboats than primping her hair to paint the town red. Skye has always had feelings for Brooks. Still, she knows that she has nothing in common with Brooks' trail of women and he only see her as a friend.
At the beginning, the reader learns that Brooks is being auctioned off at a benefit and his sister, Jessica, is spearheading the campaign. The lucky winner gets a romantic cruise on a sailboat alone with esteemed sailor himself. Rather than subjecting himself to the torture of being there with someone doesn't know or like, the oldest Winslow brother begs Skye to bid on him at the auction. Being the loving and giving and trusting person as she is, Skye helps him out in a bind.
When it comes to love and dating and those kinds of relationships, readers know that Brooks is a commitment-phobe. He believes that if he goes with Skye, his heart is safe from all those emotions.
Oh, how wrong he will turn out to be...
While on the sailboat 'Zephyrland', the title given by Skye herself, the couple embark on a course that completely changes both of their lives forever. After battling cheating boyfriends, mixed emotions, and crippling fears of the heart, and a few half truths, such as Brooks' past lovers and the reason Skye's mom isn't in her life, this couple learns some valuable lessons like cherishing all of life's important moments and they find that what they need and desire most of all is each other. Love has a powerful effect on the human heart, Skye's heart and then finally Brooks' heart as well.
Regnery's first book in the new series was a win for me. I loved how truthful the story and the characters were. Brooks and Skye both had problems and obstacles that they had to overcame both, individually and together. Still, they knew that the adventure of true love was worth the effort.
Overall, I give this story a wonderful 5 star rating! Katy's characters and story was a joy to read and I recommend it to all readers of unique love stories. She truly knows how to pull on a reader's heartstrings from the first sentence to the end. I totally want to fall in love at sea now. :)
*I was given an ARC of this book to make book teasers for Regnery's Facebook page and to write an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2015Betting on Brooks is the first of the Winslow Brothers series (a spin-off of her highly successful English Brothers' series) and features Brooks, the eldest sibling. Since his father died suddenly at the age of 17, Brooks has been the man of the house, a parent figure to his younger brothers and sister and the responsible one. So responsible in fact, that fearing an early death like his father and not wanting to burden anyone with that, he's steered clear of relationships, preferring one night stands where no expectations are on the table. When his sister Jessica enlists his help for a charity bachelor auction, he frantically thinks of the one person he can rely on to get him out of this jam - his friend and boat mechanic, Skye. Since teenagers they've had a solid working relationship, one of trust and friendship and pleasant company. She knows her way around boats and would be the perfect companion for the week long sailing journey he is donating as a prize. He just has to convince her to help him out.
'Was he honestly wooing his friend to sail with him by selling her on the antique boat's original bathroom? Why, yes. Yes, he was. He had resorted to the equivalent of sailboat seduction, because the thought of being trapped on a sailboat for a week with some privileged, stuck-up miss, who had no respect for the art of sailing was unbearable.'
Skye has had a tender spot in her heart for Brooks since she first laid eyes on him, but he has always seen her as a tomboy, a friend but never lover material. She'd given up on any romantic interaction with him long ago, instead starting a relationship with Pat, a local sailor and one she thought would be her forever after. Then Pat abandoned their plans for a voyage together and took off on his own for a 2 year round the world cruise. Though they hadn't broken up, it was becoming clear to Skye that the future she had envisioned with Pat was not going to happen. When Brooks offers her the chance to crew with him for a week long cruise on his newly restored antique sailboat, it doesn't take much convincing. Having access to Brooks' money to doll herself up for the auction and place a bid for him, she goes all out and just makes it on time...
'Brooks braced himself for the crowd's response to his tomboy friend presenting herself in some skirt and T-shirt combination with dirty fingernails and a straggly braid. And likely wearing eau de epoxy. Oh well, he thought, grinning to himself. Skye was saving him from Felicity and ensuring him a decent week of sailing, and frankly, that was all that mattered.
All that mattered, until the crowd parted.
When it did, his jaw dropped, like the hinge had just been busted. The most beautiful woman he'd ever seen stepped between the tuxedoed shoulders of several male guests, striding confidently up the center aisle where eager bachelorettes checked her out with wide eyed envy. Her blonde hair was pulled back in a soft bun, and her slim body sparkled with crystals on a dress that outlined the perfection of her figure, including the mouthwatering valley between her breasts that spilled precariously over the top of the elegant gown. From her ears dangled two twinkling earrings , and her face, tan and even with pink, pouty lips and sexy, wide eyes made the blood in his head sluice south to just below his waist.'
Like a one, two punch, Brooks suddenly sees Skye for the woman that she is, and this sets the stage for a week long cruise between two people who are suddenly very aware of each other in a new and exciting way.
There were several aspects of this story that I really liked. Sailing is not a sport I'm familiar with but it was obviously meticulously researched and was explained really well. The scenes on the boat were interesting and I didn't feel bogged down by terms I didn't know. Both Brooks and Skye were engaging, charismatic characters. They each have experienced something significant in their pasts that has affected how they've gone about their lives, and as their relationship starts to develop in a more romantic fashion they know that sharing these issues is going to be the key to how deeply they get involved. Skye's boyfriend Pat plays a role in the story as well, as Skye struggles with her growing feelings towards Brooks and the ever increasing distance (figuratively and literally) from Pat. She's not a cheater, and she has to make some hard and fast decisions about what she wants for her future. Skye is a dependable, competent sailor and Brooks' trust in her to sail his ship with him means a lot. She's a friendly, fun and likeable woman. Brooks is one of the good guys - strong, reliable, loyal, always helping others and thinking of them before himself. In fact, his wants are usually last until Skye changes his outlook on his future. The sexual tension between them heats things up as they spend time alone together eventually leading to some touching and emotional love scenes.
There are some great interactions with Brooks' siblings that give you a sense of their individual characters and I'm delighted to know that they'll each get a story of their own. This was a lovely, warmhearted start to a new series with a unique setting, likeable characters and a strong romance. 4 stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2016Ah Brooks. What can I say, I think this is my favourite book of the series so far... but I have said that before, a couple of times actually!
I just loved this book, I could not put it down, I felt a real draw to the characters in the fact that Skye ( like most of Ms Regnery's female characters) seems so real and down to earth, and so normal. The Winslow brothers are swoon worthy, dark-haired, big manly men who just make my heart melt and Brooks is definitely the big brother to this lot!
We meet Skye, who works with her father at the family marina, where Brooks Winslow, ex-Olympian sailor, eldest of the Winslow siblings and surrogate father to his younger siblings when their father died when Brooks was a teenager. Scared he too will drop dead like his father at the age of 40, Brooks will not commit to love and a family of his own, instead steering clear of love and any females he may be attracted to long-term. Then along comes Skye. Well, actually Skye has been there all along, working at the marina where Brooks moors his sailing boats, so they are friends when Brooks asks Skye to bid on him at his sister's charity auction, the prize being a week long sailing escape with Brooks.
The writing is fluid, it draws you in, you want to find more about what makes Brooks and Skye tick, what their lives are like and what is important to them. And oh, their romance ... my fave so far! So if you love the English brothers, you will fall for The Winslows too. All these beautiful people from Blueberry Lane that I just can't get enough of!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bidding on Brooks
Wow! What a delicious, beautifully written love story. All based on a cruise in a beautiful old Zephyr! You are going to love it as much as I did. I am anxious to read the second chapter of the Winslow brothers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great romantic read
Wow, this story is great, really enjoyed the whole thing.
Brooks Winslow is in a bind, his sister has placed him in an auction and he has no interest in spending time with any woman who wins the bid. So he asks his friend Skye to help him out. Skye has know Brooks since they were children. They share a love of sailing and although she's always had a crush on him they've never moved onto anything else, just friendship. After a bit of negotiating she agrees, and what happens afterward makes this book a great read.
I loved the story, plot, characters, writing and the romance. This book has a bit of everything. The details provided about sailing and boats was in depth and very interesting, it made the story flow, Skye and Brooks have a great chemistry and it's sweet that they've been friends for years before opening their eyes. There are some very angst filled moments but the romantic and loving moments are well written and descriptive. No crude sexual terminology, very sweet In fact. I would recommend to romantics and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
