A New Line Of Barbies With Disabilities Was Unveiled And People Are So Here For It

    Finally!

Barbie was “born” on March 9, 1959. That means she will be 60 years old this year.

In those 60 years, Barbie has had all kinds of occupations and hobbies, but she always looked the same…until now.

@JessicaOOTC Why did it take so long, pretty sure there has been disabilities and different ethnic groups since the beginning of Barbie. I'm glad they are doing it now, just wish they had done it sooner😋

That’s right. Mattel just announced they’re unveiling a whole new line of inclusivity dolls that will include Barbies with disabilities.

That’s a BFD! Mattel revealed their new 2019 Barbie Fashionistas will include a doll in a wheelchair and another with a prosthetic leg.

People and children with Disabilities are often made to feel singled out and different by media, and society. Giving Barbie a Wheelchair, and making a ramp for the Dreamhouse rather than creating a completely different house can help them feel that little bit less "abnormal"

A spokesperson for Mattel said, “As a brand, we can elevate the conversation around physical disabilities by including them into our fashion doll line to further showcase a multi-dimensional view of beauty and fashion.”

The toy maker is getting major kudos for this move.

I actually really am cool with the new Barbie dolls with disabilities. A child cannot help the fact that they have a disability.

Besides the dolls, Mattel also has a Barbie DreamHouse-compatible ramp in the works as part of their new inclusive collection.

@Mattel Have really shown how inspirational @Barbie can be, and I'm sooo happy all people of different races, gender and now DISABILITY can come together and relate to her. 💖🌈 #foreverbarbie

And now this story is making people ask even bigger questions.

why is Barbie, a DOLL for KIDS embracing more of everyone’s body types/race/disabilities more than our society itself? https://t.co/UY4Lz1XkCY
