Now that you mention it, my test site-- which happens to have an EMD name because I had to call it something --hasn't been getting a lot of bing search referers lately.

We took about a 38% hit in Bing traffic yesterday and it seems to be continuing today. Could be EMD related.

From what I'm seeing, this is like the day after google panda for me. That same sinking feeling. If you see the before and after? You would understand my feelings. Bing mostly is a big whatever, but it at least wasn't overrun by all big name sites. What a dogs breakfast I see. However, nobody aside from 3 of us are talking about it, so yeah, perhaps I'm dillusional.

Yes, there was clearly a huge Bing index update last Monday.

My EMDs not hit at all in Bing..still at #1 or in top 3..and also showing pages ( where EMD domain has more than one page ) from same domains lower down on page one..

Interesting. I did try a different country IP, and some not so bad results for myself. I'm not quite sure if this was a new Bing news situation where they essentially barf out a bunch of brand big sites. I just feel that something strange, and not in a positive was is happening with Bing. I guess paranoia sets in? Not sure. When I've been solidly entrenched at a #1, #2, or #3 spot for months and months and then I'm appearing mid page 2? It wasn't a partial day phenomenon. It was a couple days of this before posting this. I will say though, it did shake me up a bit. The thoughts of getting punched in the face from Bing, after dealing with the pounding from Google in the past couple of years is a sobering thought. I would appreciate some dialogue if possible on what's going on with Bing. They don't get the coverage so obviously if their is some rollout or madness going on, it's going to be harder to diagnose, imo.

This tends to happen when a search engine tweaks the exact format of its standard URL and your analytics code hasn't caught up: one form is recognized as the search engine while the others are lumped under generic referers ("organic"). I remember seeing the same thing in piwik when google changed over to https. Sorry, no, piwik, but those are not actual human web pages linking to me by name :(

Bing sent me a statement on this and it seems it is related to the HTTPS migration:

"Our move to encrypt search by default - and which is currently ongoing - combined with how search traffic is being identified has likely contributed to the issue becoming more noticeable in recent weeks."
