P. Diddy won't face felony charges over UCLA fight

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office has declined to file felony charges against rap mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs for an alleged dispute with a UCLA football coach.

Diddy was arrested last week on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and making criminal threats after he allegedly swung a kettlebell weight during a confrontation in a campus gym at UCLA, where his son Justin Combs has played for the UCLA Bruins since 2012.

Nobody was seriously harmed in the altercation, according to a news release from the university, and Combs has maintained that he was defending himself and his son.

“We are thankful that the district attorney rejected felony charges in this matter,” Combs’ attorney Mark Geragos said in a statement. “This case never should have been part of the criminal justice system to begin with.”

The case was referred to the Los Angeles city attorney’s office to decide whether Combs will face misdemeanor charges, according to Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.
