While fans have to wait until December for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to explain how our favorite heroes in the galaxy fared during the last 30 years, Disney and Marvel are offering an even earlier opportunity find out the state of the Empire before the film hits theaters.

Marvel’s Star Wars: Shattered Empire, a comic book scheduled to debut in September, will explore the state of the Empire and the Rebel Alliance after the battle of Endor and the fall of Emperor Palpatine.

As first revealed by PreviewsWorld, Shattered Empire‘s new plot description indicates that the comic—and presumably, films and books that follow—will explore an Empire that, even sans emperor, still sees Moffs and governors in control. In Shattered Empire, “Moffs will jockey for position and control” while “the Rebel Alliance will soon discover that a wounded and fractious Empire may be more dangerous than any threat they faced before.”

The plot description doesn’t reveal much specific about who or what will be the actual focus of Shattered Empire, but it does tease that we can expect a better understanding of the post-Jedi Star Wars universe before The Force Awakens hits theaters.

Disney is also set to introduce more about the universe before The Force Awakens, as Star Wars Battlefront will include downloadable content that lets players fight in The Battle of Jakku.

Marvel did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the comic. For the full plot description, head over to PreviewsWorld.
