With the iPhone flourishing and the recent arrival of Apple Music, the iPod was recently hidden away on Apple's website, prompting fears the device could be shelved for good sometime soon.

But if a leak on iTunes is anything to go by, the iPod might be around a bit longer with a new range coming soon.

In defence of... the iPod, and why Apple killing off its iconic MP3 player could be the end of owning music

Those who updated to iTunes 12.2 and plugged in their iPod were shown an image of three iPods in hues that haven't been seen before.

The three models were a dark blue iPod Touch, a gold iPod Nano and a hot pink iPod Shuffle.

So, does Apple have new devices in the works? It's possible, but it's also conceivable that it's merely a photoshop error.

A similar error occurred in May, when an iPhone 5C was published on Apple's website with Touch ID fingerprint sensor, leading to the assumption that it could be an iPhone 6C. However, Apple changed the image to an existing iPhone 5C shortly after.
