Former Alabama football player charged in home invasion, police say suspects had an assault rifle

Former Alabama defensive tackle Brandon Ivory was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly invading and burglarizing a home in Tuscaloosa.

Sgt. Brent Blankley, a Tuscaloosa Police Department spokesman, said police were called to a house on 17th Avenue around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning to respond to a burglary in progress.

Two residents were inside, but the suspects had already left. Blankley said one of the victims had been assaulted.

Police believe the two alleged burglars kicked in the back door and robbed the residents of cash and electronics.

Brandon Cortez Ivory, left, and Nicholas Gerald Gibson III were arrested in Tuscaloosa Wednesday after allegedly breaking into and burglarizing a home there, armed with a knife and an assault rifle.

"One suspect was armed with an assault rifle and the other suspect was armed with a knife," Blankley said.

The suspects then fled the scene in a 2003 Gray Toyota Corolla, but Blankley said officers received information that helped them locate the duo very quickly.

TPD officers and investigators converged on the 31st Street apartment complex where both suspects lived and arrested both men. Blankley said the stolen items and weapons were recovered.

After questioning the men, both were charged on two counts of first-degree burglary.

Ivory was a starting defensive tackle for the Crimson Tide who joined as a redshirt freshman in 2010 and started every game in 2013. He signed to play with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in May.

Ivory and the other man, 21-year-old

Nicholas Gerald Gibson III

, were both placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending payment of bonds set at $120,000 each.
