Auburn point guard New Williams underwent a minor surgery in June to remove a lesion from his knee.

Williams, who underwent ACL surgery in 2014, had a Cyclops lesion removed from the surgically-repaired knee and will miss the remainder of on-the-court workouts this summer, coach Bruce Pearl told AL.com Wednesday.

"Dr. (JamesAndrews performed his magic and we're going to get New back at the start of the first semester with a healthy knee," Pearl said.

Williams' knee was evaluated when he arrived on campus in mid-June.

A Cyclops lesion is a mass that limits extension in the surgically-repaired knee.

The California native's playing time was limited last season in high school as a result of the ACL surgery, but he still averaged 18 points and nine rebounds.

Williams told AL.com in May he expects to compete immediately in the rotation at point guard, where Kareem Canty is expected to win the starting job.

"It's going to be a competition," Williams said in May. "It's not going to be given to any of us. Everybody is going to play and everybody will get minutes, but whoever gets out there and proves they should be the point guard will be the point guard."
