As if roasted BBQ cricket burgers, bacon-pickle balls, and cookies-and-cream-glazed donuts weren’t enough, this year’s the Fair at the PNE will also be offering guests a boozy, beer-soaked Sunday brunch.

Titled the Beer-unch! (get it?), the four-course meal will take place at 11:30 a.m. every Sunday (August 20 and 27 and September 3) during the Fair as part of the event’s popular Craft Beer Fest at the Italian Garden. (Side note: the Craft Beer Fest, which features 30-plus B.C. breweries, now also features wine samplers.)

The long-table brunch includes dishes like smoked salmon toast, watermelon gazpacho, chicken and waffles, and caramelized banana pudding, all of which will be expertly paired with a B.C. craft brew.

Tickets to the Beer-unch are $49 online and include your seat at brunch, plus admission to the Fair.

Other brand new attractions at this year’s the Fair at the PNE, which happens from this Saturday (August 19) to September 4 (with closures on August 21 and 28), include Xtreme Bugs, an immersive outdoor installation showcasing 19 robotic insect models and dozens of other static creatures; the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Legends of Hockey, a 5,000-square-foot showcase of artifacts, artworks, and other media profiling some of the sport’s most prolific players; and Toytopia, an exhibition of retro video games, pinball machines, and life-size toys that will allow attendees to both learn about and play with some of their favourite childhood pastimes.

Partnerships with Canadian nonprofit Reel Youth and the National Film Board of Canada will also see the Fair screening a selection of short films, animated programs, and vignettes on the daily within the Festival Park and Celebration Plaza.

A brown paper couture display produced by students in Langara’s Design Formation program, a Fall for Local pop-up market, and cultural activities such as the Spirit of India Summer Festival and Caribbean Carnival will also be part of the fun. Returning attractions include the Kidz Discovery Farm, the SuperDogs live show, and the Summer Nights concerts, which, this year, features artists ZZ Top, Mother Mother, and others.
