Story

Hi to all that have been kind enough to sponsor me for my Ironman Wales 2015 Triathlon. I'm really pleased to say that the old knacker managed to complete the race in 15 hrs 26mins. The people of Tenby came out in their thousands to support the event, lining the streets, cheering on the athletes. Thanks again for your kind donations.

Hi all Steve Yates here!

I've decided to take on the challenge of an Ironman Triathlon after having completed The Windermere Marathon back in May 2014.

An Ironman Triathlon is a long distance race consisting of a 2.4 Mile Sea Swim, a 112 Mile Bike Ride & then finish with a 26.2 Mile Full Marathon, raced in that order without any breaks.

After thinking long & hard about whether or not an old knacker like me at the age of 50 could possibly do  it, I thought COME ON YATESY LAD GET STUCK IN SON & GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT!! Under the guidance of my brilliant coach Hilary Johnson at Derby Triathlon Club, I started training back in September 2014 Six days a week giving myself A year to hopefully be fit enough for the tough challenge of Ironman Wales in Tenby on Sunday 13th September 2015.

After hearing of the Radio Derby presenter Colin Bloomfields brave battle against cancer I'm hoping with a little help from my friends & family we can all raise some money to donate to Colin's Melanoma Appeal! Colin was so brave & positive throughout his illness, he is such an inspiration!

The appeal will hopefully prevent other people dying from melanoma. The money raised will give up to 200 schools in the Derbyshire area a chance to be part of SKCIN Sun Safe Scheme & recieve Sun Cream Dispensers & UV monitors to help protect pupils.

Skin Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with melanoma now one of the biggest cancer killers in the 15-34 age group. 80% of all cases are preventable!  The Colin Bloomfield Appeal is working with SKCIN to make Derbyshire & East Staffordshire the sun safe capital of the UK! The appeal aims to reach hundreds of children & parents & educate them about the safety & skin awareness & most importantly to save lives!

Cheers Steve Yates!!
