Lady Gaga Mistakes Mariachi Festival For Pride Parade In Balcony Photos

Chicago-transplant Lady Gaga may need a refresher course in our city's neighborhood geography.

Apparently Gaga lives in a swanky high-rise with views for miles over Millennium Park and downtown, but not even she had a birds-eye view of the Pride Parade from her balcony, where she shared a celebratory photo on Twitter and Instagram announcing her intention to watch Chicago Pride right from home. In the photos she stands on her balcony, overlooking the park, with her arms outstretched and "Gay Pride" written across her chest in red ink.

Gaga didn't seem to realize that Boystown, and the Pride Parade route, were several miles north and well out of view of her balcony. And the gathering of revelers below, in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion? Those were Mariachi players. The Park hosted the first-ever Chicago Mariachi and Folklórico Festival Sunday afternoon, which drew crowds to celebrate the musical heritage—not necessarily the LGBTQ rights movement.

This fact was apparently lost on Lady Gaga and her fans, 2,600 of whom shared her post on Twitter, which said, "Watching over Chicago Pride from my apartment and smiling so big. So many happy people. Happy pride!!"

But event organizers picked up on Lady Gaga's mistake, and ran with it in a post of their own on Facebook:

Lady Gaga shares a photo yesterday overlooking the Mariachi & Folklorico Festival at Millennium Park from her hotel room, thinking it was Chicago's Pride Fest! "So many people" she says! Thank you again for helping us make history! ‪#‎GagaHasMariachiPride‬

Lady Gaga was in town to perform at Ravinia with Tony Bennett last Friday and Saturday.
