THUNDER BAY – Environment Canada has posted a special weather statement for this city.

The government weather agency says thunderstorms featuring strong winds and hail are possible this afternoon. The statement was officially released just before 2 p.m.

The special statement is not a watch or a warning, but could change depending on weather developments.

The last special weather statement posted for Thunder Bay was Tuesday, when winds from passing thunderstorms led to downed trees, power lines and scattered power outages scattered across much of the city.

• City of Thunder Bay

Thunderstorms with gusty winds and small hail possible this afternoon.

Isolated thunderstorms have developed across Northwestern Ontario as expected. They will continue through the afternoon into this evening. Some of the stronger thunderstorms will contain marble sized hail as well as wind gusts of 70 km/h.

Thunderstorms are not expected to become severe, and will dissipate this evening.
