Root Rots Developing in Some Corn Fields

A corn field in Minnehaha County with excessive moisture and poor drainage. Such conditions favor Pythium root rot to develop.

In South Dakota, the recent rainfall in May and June and cool soil temperatures are favoring some of the most common and damaging seedling and root diseases in corn fields. Poor and uneven emergence may indicate seedling diseases in the affected corn fields.
