Healthy Habits With Jawbone

Hello Darlings, First to admit that I'm not one to go on health fixes, juice cleanses or the latest fitness crazed classes. As much as I do care about my well being and focus on exercise and good nutrition, I do find that it is a matter of mentality. I've always kept an "old school" mindset that everything in moderation is a good life plan.

I think that finding balance between what your life is and where you want it to go is a matter of habits. Habits that we form regardless of whether good or bad is a matter of time. As we proceed through life we try to break some of the bad habits that have formed over time and work towards establishing positive ones. With age we consider our actions more and in turn dedicate more time and effort to carving out the life we envision for ourselves earlier. At times knowing what is good for us is not always enough which is where Jawbone comes in! It comes right at the time when certain habit ought to be broken and new ones to be formed.

In my previous article I wrote about Jawbone UP MOVE and especially the Smart Coach. Technology which does just that, it determined trends in your behavior pattern and brings them to your attention. Essentially this little gizmo helps improve the overall wellness by keeping track and analyzing your daily sleep, movement, exercise, nutrition and moods. More importantly it also keeps in line with regular reminders that are based on routine and data that it gathered over time. Reminders such as for every 30 minutes I'm up past my bedtime, I tend to be 8% less active the next day. Based on behavioral science each reminder and suggestion is delivered in a tone that is most encouraging to me and which delivers best results based on my data of responses. Therefore the more I use my Jawbone UP MOVE, the better my Smart Coach understands me.

With my job I often start days early and wrap up late at night. Since part of my job is social many of my weekdays contain an event which results in a late night. This is where my terrible sleeping patterns create a disastrous outcome of constantly feeling tired. Regardless if I have 5 or 9 hours of sleep, lack of consistency makes it for a bad outcome. Since using Jawbone and better understanding the impact that sleep has not only on my energy and activity levels but also my mood made me much more conscious and willing to work towards establishing a regular sleeping routine.

In studies done by Jawbone with user generated data over the period of one year showed that longer sleep duration is correlated with improved mood; in turn better moods correlate with activity level. People who sleep between 8 and 9.5 hours during a night wake up happier than those who slept less or more than that. Essentially more sleep is not better either.

So as I try and develop a sleep pattern that does not vary in 4 or 9 hours of sleep, I will continue to wear my little gizmo. Afterall there's a reason they say knowledge is power and having it at the palm of your hand sure does help! So while I was out the other night and my phone buzzer informing me it was past my bedtime and how it will affect my moods tomorrow, it was the much needed reminder to wrap up the night and head come to catch some ZZzzzz!

With Love...

Marta
