The 2016 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks come with performance upgrades, including an improved Cummins diesel that now produces 900lb-ft (1,219Nm) of torque.

According to Ram, the 6.7-liter diesel delivers the most torque ever offered in a mass-production truck. The additional 35lb-ft (47Nm) was obtained thanks to turbo boost calibration for the inline-six cylinder engine.

Another important update for the 2016 model year is the Ram 3500’s increase in towing capacity from 30,000 lbs (13,607 kg) to 31,210 lbs (14,156 kg) of SAE J2807-spec towing capacity. According to the truck maker, the Ram 3500 beats the closest competitor by more than two tons.

To handle the increased towing capacity, the rear axle ring gear hardware was strengthened from 12 to 16 bolts on all trucks equipped with the 11.8-inch axle. The additional hardened bolts and stronger material are used in the differential case to assure long-term durability.

The first 2016 Ram Heavy Duty trucks will begin rolling off the assembly line in the third quarter of 2015 and will arrive in dealerships in the fourth quarter. Pricing starts from $31,485 for the 2016 Ram 2500, while the 2016 Ram 3500 is available from $31,990. Prices don’t include $1,195 destination.
