White Plains On Verge Of Adding Red Light Cameras
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Red light cameras could soon be coming to White Plains.
The state Legislature approved Mayor Tom Roach's request for cameras at 12 dangerous intersections, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported. Gov. Andrew Cuomo still must sign off on them.
Roach's request came after he suffered a cracked rib when a red light runner T-boned his car last year.

There are strong feelings about the plan on both sides.
"Good idea, because there's a lot of fools that run these red lights, and they should be held accountable," said Charlie, a livery driver. "And maybe if they're held accountable, it'll stop some of the stupid accidents."
But livery driver Bob Casone has concerns.
"A yellow light that's three seconds and shorter than all the others does not jibe in my book," he said.
Yonkers and Mount Vernon already have red light cameras in place.
Critics claim the cameras contribute to rear-end collisions when drivers slam on their brakes. They argue the cameras are more about cities making money.
The Journal News reported the fines in White Plains will go into a fund for pedestrian and bicycle safety.
