Jamie Oliver's 15 hopefuls attend RAF Reserves boot camp
The Royal Air Force’s newest Reservist Squadron (Sqn), based at RAF St Mawgan near Newquay, worked with the Cornwall Food Foundation to put 28 hopeful trainee chefs through an exciting ‘boot camp’ event, as part of their selection for Fifteen Cornwall at Watergate Bay.

A series of military activities were part of a selection day process for the 16-24 year olds, who were hoping to join the Fifteen Cornwall Apprentice Chef programme at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Restaurant at Watergate Bay, which is run by the charity the Cornwall Food Foundation.

The Charity offers the opportunity for successful applicants to gain their NVQ Level 2 apprenticeship, in partnership with Cornwall College. During this time students will also carry out on the job training with professional chefs at Fifteen Cornwall, over a 15 month programme.  Read more.

Exeter Chiefs recognised for support to the Armed Forces community

Premiership rugby team Exeter Chiefs has been recognised for the support they offer to the Armed Forces Community.

The Chief Executive and Chairman of the club, Tony Rowe, was presented with a Bronze Employer Recognition Scheme Award at the Armed Forces game held on Sunday 13th November.

A special service and minute silence was held before the game to mark 
Remembrance Sunday. Cadets from Devon Army Cadet Force were invited to attend the match and had the opportunity to carry the team shirt onto the pitch and take part in the service.  Read more.

Sam follows in her father's footsteps to join the RAF as a Reservist

With the benefit of an early career as a food technologist devising new recipes and ideas for supermarket shelves, Aircraftswoman Samantha Grange is odds-on to be the first recruit to be fully trained as a chef with the South West’s new RAF Reserves Squadron.

Sam, aged 49 with a daughter and son in their early 20s, has more recently spent 15 years as a civilian enquiry officer with the police and somehow still finds time to help her husband run the family farm near Truro.  Read more.

MOD choose the Royal British Legion to lead Help for Veterans

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has announced that the Covenant Fund will work with Royal British Legion (RBL) and other charities to set up a one-stop service to better support the UK’s Armed Forces veterans community. The £2 million Veterans Gateway programme will help veterans find and access advice and

support on a broad range of issues, including healthcare and housing.

The new service will provide a 24/7 phone number, with an empathetic and professional voice at the end of the line, a dedicated website and a mobile app to make it easier for former service personnel to access support on a range of issues including housing, employability and health. Read more.

The Wessex Reserve Forces' & Cadets' Association is an independent, non-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting the 3000 tri-service Reservists and 14,000 Cadets across the South West of England.
