DEP Publishes Updated Nonpoint Source Management Plan For Comment

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the June 20 PA Bulletin it has developed a draft Nonpoint Source Management Plan-2014 Update for public comment designed to reduce nonpoint source pollution-- stormwater and agricultural runoff-- and meet pollution reduction milestones.

The draft Management Plan follows the EPA guidance by providing the following elements: goals, objectives, and strategies to protect and restore water quality; efforts to strengthen working partnerships with appropriate state, interstate, regional and local entities, private sector groups, citizens groups and Federal agencies; a balanced approach to addressing nonpoint source pollution that emphasizes both statewide programs and on the ground projects to abate existing problems and prevent new ones; and the use of periodic feedback to evaluate progress and make appropriate program revisions.

A copy of the draft Plan is available online.  The Plan was last updated in 2008.

Comments are due July 20 and can be submitted through DEP new eComment tool or submitted to the DEP Policy Office, Department of Environmental Protection, P.O. Box 2063, Harrisburg, PA 17105-2063 or send email to: ecomment@pa.gov.
