The Backyard Scientist is back with a new video

What with today being Monday and all, chances are you're not exactly bursting with joy and could sure use some entertainment. Well, we dare say we've found just the thing for you.

This latest video signed by The Backyard Scientist shows what happens when molten aluminum is poured into a lava lamp. Right about now, you're probably thinking the hot metal is bound to make the lamp explode.

And it does, sort of. It's not the kind of explosion we're used to seeing in blockbusters - there are no flames running around in all possible directions - but the bottom of the lava lamp does not quite survive the encounter.

Rather, it is pretty much obliterated, as is the bulb. As for the supposed lava in the lamp, which is really just colored wax, it turns into flakes of sorts and bursts out of its container. Plainly put, the lava lamp is no more.

The molten aluminum, on the other hand, cools and forms a peculiar shape, almost like a work of art. Modern art, that is. This happens because, rather than going straight through the lamp, the heated metal pools at the bottom.

Needless to say, this is one experiment you probably shouldn't try to recreate at home. No, really, molten aluminum is not the kind of thing you want to play around with, especially if you don't have safety equipment.
