When it comes to budget smartphones, Xiaomi knows a lot about how to make a good one and price it in the best of ways. Last year, the company launched the Redmi 6A in India and made the modern 18:9 display more accessible to the masses. The Redmi 6A also introduced the MediaTek Helio A22 chipset that was superior to its predecessor and promised better performance. However, Xiaomi keeps on updating its offerings within a span of few months and the company has already unveiled its successor - the Redmi 7A.

The Redmi 7A has been unveiled in China and as far as the specifications are concerned on paper, the smartphone gets massive upgrades under the hood. Compared to its predecessor, the Redmi 7A has got a bigger battery, more powerful processor and runs on the latest Android 9 Pie. Xiaomi hasn't revealed prices yet but expect it to be priced under Rs 7,000 in India when it launches. Since it will be a few months before Xiaomi unveils it, how does it compare to the existing Redmi 6A and is it wise to wait for the new model and buy the existing one? We find out.

Redmi 6A vs Redmi 7A: What's similar?

--Both the Redmi 6A and Redmi 7A have a 5.45-inch HD+ IPS LCD display. The aspect ratio is 18:9 and there are slim bezels.

--For the rear camera, both have a 13-megapixel single camera while at the front, there's a 5-megapixel selfie camera.

--Both run on the latest version of MIUI 10 and have similar software features.

--Both the phones come with 256GB of expandable storage.

--The Redmi 7A gets a newer Snapdragon 439 chipset that comes with an octa-core processor and an Adreno 505 GPU. This chipset is more powerful than the MediaTek Helio A22 on the Redmi 6A that has a quad-core processor and a weaker GPU. Therefore, on paper, the Redmi 7A should offer better performance.

--The Redmi 7A also gets a bigger 4000mAh battery whereas the Redmi 6A has a 3000mAh battery. With the more efficient Snapdragon 439, the Redmi 7A should last longer on a single charge.

--The Redmi 7A in its high-end variant gets 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. In comparison, the Redmi 6A only offers 2GB RAM.

--The Redmi 7A also offers a newer design more akin to the Redmi Note 7 series of phones.

Should you wait for the Redmi 7A?

As of now, Xiaomi hasn't unveiled the pricing on the Redmi 7A. But if the previous trends are to be considered, then the Redmi 7A could be priced under Rs 7,000. At this price, the Redmi 7A will be a great option for the entry-level smartphone buyers. And since the upgrades have been made to all the areas that matter, the Redmi 7A will perform better and is, therefore, worth waiting.
