CAT Telecom Public Company Limited (CAT) joined executives in the consortium created to invest in the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) submarine cable to celebrate the launch of APG.
The consortium comprises CAT, China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, KT Corporation, LG Uplus, NTT Com, StarHub, Global Transit, Viettel and VNPT.
APG is built to high standards and has sufficient bandwidth to serve international internet usage data communication in Asia. The event was joined by several telecommunication services providers in Asia and around the world.
Domestic and international Internet bandwidth users have continuously increased in the last five years. Data communication and internet bandwidth in 2017 will be approximately 4 Tbps. This is going to increase even more next year. The number of internet users is increasing in both the public sector and private sector.
CAT network system development emphasises signal communication efficiency whereby data can be transmitted at high speed and with great stability by submarine cable connecting this region with the rest of the world. This will support continued domestic and regional economic growth.
Now the consortium is celebrating empowering economic development in Asia with the APG submarine cable which provides service throughout the Asia Pacific.
Prior to this, the AAG (Asia-America Gateway) submarine cable connected Asia with America. These latest developments show the unstoppable growth of telecommunications in Asia.
The APG submarine cable system is 10,900 kilometres long. It connects Thailand to Asia Pacific landing points in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, China Mainland, South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong.
APG uses technology to expand bandwidth to enable data transmission at speed of 54 Tbps. This bandwidth capacity is higher than any other system available in Thailand, supporting dense data demand arising from the AAG system constructed by CAT previously.
Within this year, CAT Internet Gateway will provide high speed connections at 100 Gbps. for each port. International content service providers will be directly connected by CAT through international submarine cable systems, including APG, AAG and SEA-ME-WE 4 (Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 4). This will increase connection stability and better meet the needs of users. Through its submarine cable system, CAT Internet Gateway will be the first to provide Nx100 Gbps. connections in Thailand.
Besides creating the APG submarine cable APG, CAT is gearing up to be a hub for developing telecommunications around the region, starting with a Digital Innovation Park. In addition, it will develop products and services like Cloud, IoT, and Security, which will fulfil all requirements, including for New S-Curve. All business sectors, especially finance, banking, manufacturing, services and others, will be enabled.
CAT emphasises cooperation with domestic and international content and application related entrepreneurs to boost business throughout ASEAN.
