Duchess Kate repeats a twirly Dolce & Gabbana suit for a children’s hospital event

You know what I’ve been wondering about a lot for the past three weeks or so? In one of the last press briefings of 2019, Kensington Palace officials promised “big announcements” would be coming soon. At the time, we all rolled our eyes and wondered if that meant the annual New Year’s announcement that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would be very keen this year, they promised. Then they released some new photos of the kids and I thought well, that was the big announcement. Then Sussexit happened. Now I wonder if THAT was the big announcement and William (in particular) was super-excited about it and he and the KP team were actively previewing and leaking certain Sussexit information as part of a larger Keen Media Strategy. I think that was the case, because look what’s been rolling out of KP this month – more appearances than usual for January, the Struggle Survey, and tons of other stuff related to Kate. It’s interesting.

Anyway, Kate did another public event today – she stopped by Evelina London Children’s Hospital to check out a creative workshop sponsored by the National Portrait Gallery’s Hospital Programme. She’s the patroness of both the children’s hospital and the National Portrait Gallery. Kate repeated a twirly Dolce & Gabbana suit (which I can’t find in our archives, but I remember this) and… yeah. I mean, the skirt is too short and too twirly but we’re used to it by now. And at least she’s working and not just promising to be keen at some point. You can read more about her event here.

Kate’s old private secretary (the equivalent of a chief of staff) was Catherine Quinn, and Quinn exited her employment last fall. It was widely believed that Quinn made many efforts to turn Kate’s profile and portfolio from lightweight to heavyweight (or at least bantamweight). There were some snarky people suggesting that Quinn never would have approved of that Struggle Survey. Which is probably true, but then again, very few people have actually criticized the Early Years launch and how nonsensical it all is. Well, anyway, I’m just pointing out that I don’t believe Kate has hired someone new to replace Quinn? But Kate and William have hired someone new for their Royal Foundation – Tatler had a write-up about their new hire, Edwina Iddles, a former Tory MP. She’ll be doing communications for the Royal Foundation. Which… the foundation is overseeing Early Years and the Struggle Survey. What does it all mean?

Ah Kate. Reliable Kate. Yet again we get a wardrobe malfunction. Well, consistent and reliable that she is.

    • Ali says:

      But shes perfect!

The wind is not her friend.

    • notasugarhere says:

Yep, in some photos the hem blew up above her waistline when she exited the car. Nine years in, still flashing on the job.

    • Adriana says:

A todo el mundo le pasa.

      • Powermoonchrystal says:

Creo que aquí la gente se enoja porque si esta fuese Meghan, la harían pedazos la prensa y muchos comentarios en sitios web. Además kate ha estado en esto por una década o más. Hay pesas para evitar que se levanta la falda y ya.

      • NCDancer says:

Maybe. But I agree with PowerMoonChrystal. The duchess has been at this a while – it’s a rookie mistake.

    • Amy Too says:

Last night I went back and read the royal archives on this site. It’s so funny how lots of those comments could have been written yesterday. Comments from 2013 about “why does she dress like Skipper, Barbie’s kid sister, all the time? What’s with the floaty flashing short skirts and long hair hanging in her face all the time?” I was also surprised at the Wandering Willy comments that went back so far. They never had the ideal marriage did they? It’s never been believable. He was out hunting/partying with his ex girlfriend while Kate was taking baby George on his very first family vacation with her family to Mustique. Despite Will having to stay home because he was supposedly auditing an agricultural class and couldn’t miss any of it, he was actually on a vacation with his friends and ex. And then a month later, he and Kate left George at home with the new nanny so they could go on their own romantic 10 day international vacation, despite Will not being done with the class yet! And despite the fact that Kate supposedly couldn’t work and do engagements because she was a very hands on stay at home mom. The story has been the same with these people from the beginning. They’ve been showing who they are for years.

But I was also struck by how NOT soul crushingly hateful the comments and articles were. From reading people saying things like “Meghan is just getting the same level of criticism Kate got,” I thought that comments and press articles would be mean. They’re really not. People want to know why she dresses like a 13 year old, why she never works, and how come she gets all the money in the world to go on 2 vacations within 2 months AND redecorate the whole of KP again after she just had it done but “accidentally” ended up painting everything purple because of “pregnancy hormones.” And that’s the commenters here who wanted to know those things. The press didn’t care. They weren’t frothing at the mouth about these things. Articles had the tiniest bit of side eye sometimes, but weren’t editorialized to make it seem like Will and Kate were spendthrift agitators out to bring down the RF.

      • aria says:

i agree with everything you have said. i post the theory of own in other article. so i will post again. my theory is that meghan and harry might be floating the idea of rf but not be sure of it. many ppl and rr says that sussex got angry and mad at queen for not having their son picture in the table of queen speech. this made the last straw for them to leave rf. but for me i think in their absences we saw the andy scandal and cambridge shrug gate. how the cambridge marriage is micromanage and andy under microscope without sussex being there to hide the scandals. i think meghan and harry clever seen the reaction of shruggate and andy scandal and left because without sussex around the brf will imploded themslves in public and their hypocrispy is loud and clear. now they left charles 16 private jet, kate 8 years 5 question project , queen with andy and andy not talking to lawyer and how these are handled by brf and rr is very clear to the public and international media is watching the too. this is the master plan by sussex and last FU to brf and rr. Now lets wait and watch the brf imploded themslves in public and rr too. now slowly we will hear about leaks from ch and kp , war on wales, andy scandal and cambridge marriage trouble. omg i cant believe that sussex cant use their title but its worth it because the hypocripy of brf will come and huanted them. this is queen karma for whatver crime she did . instead of enjoying the last years happy she is dealing with these shits.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate always got the benefit of the doubt and so it has always been disingenuous to say she was criticized as much as Meghan. She never was and any criticism often related to her being lazy or spending lots of money on multiple similar outfits.

  2. MattyLove says:

I get the feeling that Kate has been informed she’s done having babies and it’s time to get to work. I don’t think she wanted to be done having babies.

    • Heather says:

I had actually thought that the “big announcement” was going to be that she was preggers again. I hope that the lack of announcement didn’t mean that she suffered a miscarriage.
Also, she’s only 38 years old; she can still have more babies.

    • Ali says:

I think you are right. The baby train has passed Kate and now she has to work.

      • Guest with Cat says:

I think that explains the dead inside look she’s been sporting especially as it appeared when she actually said in public that William is done. Between that and having to publicly nclude Rose in her birthday celebrations, it’s been a hard time for her. I hope she did not have to suffer through a miscarriage as well.

The look on her face as she’s exiting the car is the one she defaults to when she’s not fake smiling. I’ve been ill and drawn a long time but I still look happy because I am. This look of exhaustion is soul deep and whatever has been keeping her inner light on got extinguished. I feel sorry for her but she’s a part of the system attempting to crush the same life out of the Sussexes and to elevate Andrew above them all. So there’s only so much I can say in praise of anything good she’s doing at a given moment.

      • Marie says:

@Guest with Cat. I feel like Kate is upset that Harry is gone. He was the only one that paid her attention and was genuinely nice to her. If he knows she and her family are behind this smear campaign then that friendship is gone. He is in Canada and will only come back when needed. I think she really liked Harry and may have also had a crush. My theory.

      • aria says:

marie yes i have said that when harry was around william hardly show any affection towards kate. in those enagement harry only talks to william and kate and partically entairned kate . but kate didnt stand up to william and didnt welcome her like harry did. maybe she likes meghan but the thing is she is complicit in the crimes of windsors. after meghan harry slowly losley his affection towards kate . i mean she didnt stand up for his wife when harry told press to back off when kate was pregnant. this surely put him in position to take a stand between his wife and sisiter in law.

      • yinyang says:

Why doesn’t William do what a lot of modern men do and get a vasectomy. That’ll go well with his population control intiative, too. He can lead by example and practice what he preaches.

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

I think it’s exactly this. William is done and BP needs them to step up now that Harry & Meghan have left a giant void. Anne and Charles can’t do all the work. I think we will be seeing more of Kate but it will be lackluster engagements like it’s always been.

      • Adriana says:

Visitar un hospital es un trabajo mediocre ¿ como? 😑

      • Jules says:

@Adriana. She was just showing up, not performing life-saving surgery. Kate seems to put little effort into her “work” and appears pretty clueless about her simple projects, so yes, most of what she does is mediocre. Y por favor, deja de comentar en español cuando obviamente entiendes bien el inglés.

    • Yes. I think one of the positives for the Firm from Sussexit will be William and Kate actually having to do their “publicly paid” for jobs. Long, endless away time may be a thing of the past for both of them. I predict cracks in their “happy to be out working” facades sometime this year.

  3. LadyLaw says:

    Maniacal smile? Check.
Weirdly twee outfit on 40 year old? Check.
If the front reveals a bunch of giant buttons we may have the hat trick!

    • wellsie says:

I think she’s done it! I see buttons, baby!

    • Belli says:

Check the first photo! There’s the triple!

    • Kristina says:

I remember lots of defence that “we wouldn’t make fun of Kate’s clothes or looks if she just worked more.” And I’m seeing her a ton lately. Just an observation.

      • Nic919 says:

We have not seen her that much. She did two days of engagements last week, which was 3 stops, after several weeks of nothing and then did something last night and then today. The PR just amped it up more because they have no one else to focus on.

When she can actually match Sophie’s engagement count which is usually around 300, then she will have matched the work ethic of the others. She hasn’t earned it yet, despite being in the family since 2011.

      • Becks1 says:

LOL, no, we haven’t seen her a ton. Check out the schedule of some of the other royals. She’s still not working that much. It just seems like she is, because she rarely does more than one event a week.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Cathy Cambridge does not look that bad. She has worn much worse more often than not.

    • The Recluse says:

Yeah, what is it with the extreme “HI, EVERYBODY, SOGLADTOBEHERE!!” expressions anyway. We need a facial expression reader.

      • (TheOG)@jan90067 says:

That reminded me of the scene in “Love, Actually”, when Emma Thompson confronts Alan Rickman about his affair at the kids’ Christmas show. She’s choked up, almost crying, and then the kids rush in, and she turns with, “DARLINGS! YOU WERE MARVELOUS! …” with a HUGE smile, arms wide… That’s Kate: off/on.

    • Nev says:

      black child. CHECK.

      • hudson girl says:

Damn you are right, I hadn’t even noticed that. How many times is that this week? Gross.

      • Thanks for pointing out that Kate is once again photographed with a black child. In almost every event since Sussexit there has been a black child in photos with her. “See, I’m not racist, says Kate, as she smiles and barely touches black child. As long as they’re not part of my family and know their place in my royal world.”

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

The girl doesn’t look too happy about giving Kate those flowers. For some reason, photos of Kate with child = automatic praise for Kate’s ability to be Queen, regardless of how the children seem to feel about her.

      • Mac says:

Kate is frequently photographed with children color. Please stop tokenizing this little girl.

    • Adriana says:

Kate tiene 38 años . Los que piensan que tener 40 es viejo. Son los milenials

    • Vava says:

Her expressions drive me crazy, just like the way she always talks with her hands, too. I don’t think I’d want to ever be around this woman, she’s such a damn phony.
This suit needs to be retired. There is nothing to salvage here. The jacket doesn’t fit her properly and that skirt is absolutely AWFUL. OK, I like the tights and the shoes. The hairstyle is very juvenile. Grow up, Kate.

    • betsyh says:

I’m in the minority, but I confess I like her weirdly twee outfit. If I had her legs I would wear it.

    • Joanna says:

THANK YOU! I’m her age and everytime I see a picture of her , I think wtf is she wearing?! She wears such weird outfits.

  4. HK9 says:

The look on that little girls face is the way I feel about Kate right now……

  5. Joanna says:

If you know it’s going to blow in the wind, why wear it? A pencil skirt would look better and not blow around. Pleated twirly skirts are immature choices imo. She’s been doing this for what? 8 years? Geez!

    • BayTampaBay says:

Does Cathy ever wear pencil skirts? I cannot recall any pencil skirts.

    • yinyang says:

Pencil skirts look too mature for her liking.

    • (TheOG)@jan90067 says:

Trousers would’ve been a better choice (in my opinion) for an event where she’s bending down with/over kids. She wore some nice trousers (with that chevron blouse) last week. Those, with another blouse or sweater top, would’ve been perfect for a blowy day. Even this jacket with those trousers would’ve looked smart and professional. This outfit really doesn’t fit well. Her torso is too long for the fit of the jacket (you can see how the bottom of the jacket is just a bit too short for the flare-line of the skirt; it’s supposed to “line up” when she’s standing straight).

On the positive: I do like that her hair is off her face (nice style for her). And I’m glad to see her out doing something. She does well with little ones. She looks happy and engaged with them.

    • My3cents says:

Because she dresses on theme. Meeting children=dress like a child?

    • Eugh says:

Someone here said she dresses like she’s in a school Christmas pageant and I can’t unsee it. I don’t get it, she would look great in pencil skirts. Queen Leti is also very straight and wears the sh-t out of clothes.

    • minx says:

I’m not sure about pencil skirts on her. She has narrow hips and no fanny…I dunno. But I wish she would stop with the pageant hair.

    • Elisa says:

This outfit would have looked awesome with straight black pants (not the skin tight ones!). Le sigh.

  6. Sarah says:

Is Kate not allowed to change her hair? Or makeup? The sausage curls and heavy eyeliner are so harsh. This suit would be lovely with a pencil skirt.

    • CindyP says:

      Or with black trousers

    • Dee says:

She’ll wear hair and makeup like this when she’s 70. LOL They will pry that dark eyeliner out of her cold, dead hands.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

There was a short period a few years ago where her makeup was really good which made her look fresh but then she went back to the panda eyes and heavy blusher. I think she tries for the doe eye’s but she overdoes the eyeliner on the bottom which ruins it. Her eye makeup it just too heavy.

      • Erinn says:

I had forgotten about her hair during that time. It WAS good. But I also don’t find this bad? I think a lot of it boils down to personal preference. I love having really long hair – a good deal longer than Kate’s, so it doesn’t even pick up on my radar. But my mother – she’ll constantly say “Sooooo what are you doing with your hair next?” hoping that I’m going to say I’m cutting it short. She’s had short hair my whole life, and that’s her preference. I think some of the hair comments (besides the absolutely fair ‘she should pull it away from her face’ kinds of comments) are really in line with personal preferences more than it being ‘bad’ hair.

But the eyeliner. Ouf. I tend to think that the vast majority of people have a hard time pulling it off. At least in terms of black liner and over lining. When it’s done ‘right’ it can be killer, but too many people have too heavy of a hand. I have slightly hooded, deeper set eyes. Sort of similar to Kate in a general sense. Getting a good liner that is anything winged or cat-eye looking involves a different line shape than someone with a more ‘easy’ eye shape. I still struggle with liner. But it’s one of those things that can drag your whole look down, and I think that’s what’s happening more often than not with Kate. A nice, coppery liner would make a world of difference, I think.

      • (TheOG)@jan90067 says:

You’re right, Erinn. I have dark hair and light eyes (green with a blue tinge), and even though I wore black liner (with a plum edge to bring out the green) when I was young, I find that as I got older, into my late 30s/early 40s, changing to an esspresso (black brown) made a big difference in the “harsh” factor; in my late 50s I kept the brown pencil really close to the lash line , but added a dark plummy-bronzy brown *shadow* as a liner (and yes, wing it, and bring it under my eyes instead of pencil, and wow! did that up the green in my eyes! And makes them look HUGE (I also have deep-set eyes).

TLDR: Makeup really does need to change with us as we age. As much as we love a “look”, some things just won’t look good on aging skin, or is just even too “twee” a look on a maturing face of any stage.

      • Harla says:

Yes, it was right after her UK Vogue photoshoot when she channeled Jecca Craig. I really liked her makeup then but I do think it’s a bit of a security blanket and with all that’s been going on and I’m sure William isn’t the easiest to deal with right now, she’s needing that security of heavier eye liner.

      • February Pisces says:

I was obsessed with my eyeliner in my twenties, I wouldn’t have left the house without wearing it. But in my mid thirties as you skin starts to change, I can’t wear it, I just look a drunk mess. I prefer no eye makeup as it looks cleaner and fresher. I think kate is emotionally attached to her eyeliner, but all it does is highlight that she has very tired eyes.

      • Sarah says:

It’s not the length of the hair that I don’t think is working for her, but how she styles it. It is often quite “done” and looks a little severe, which I don’t think matches her personality. As she is someone who has all the access in the world to professionals, it just perplexes me. Ah well.

    • kerwood says:

I think the heavy eyeliner is part of her Diana cosplay. Diana LOVED her eyeliner.

  7. Anony83 says:

The face on that last little girl is a MOOD.

Like, she’s probably like “when they said I was meeting a Princess, I thought they meant the other one, oh well.”

(On a side note, I’d love this outfit if it just had a differently shaped skirt – is Kate allergic to a nice, simple pencil skirt?)

    • kerwood says:

@Anony83, you made me laugh out loud! I thought the same thing. Baby girl is feeling some kind of way about meeting Keen Katie. She’s looking back at her mother as if to say ‘I thought you said the Duchess of SUSSEX!!!’.

    • Hope says:

Kate keeps wearing dark and dull colors to meet with children and no one has a problem with Kate not dressing like a princess and possibly disappointing the children.

I say this because I remember the completely ludicrous criticism Meghan got for wearing black for an engagement with children.

  8. Belli says:

Oh no, we’d actually gone a little while without a skirt+wind incident! This feels like we’re back in 2014.

I do wonder how long this post-Sussexit burst of activity from the Cambridges will last.

Side note, that darling little girl’s expression is killing me 😂

  9. josephine says:

I don’t understand the rationale behind her styling. I get that the stylist has to take into account her “position” as a royal but there’s just nothing good about her styling. Her make-up needs a serious overhaul, the hair is never quite right and the clothes and especially the shoes are dated and matronly and twee at the same time. She should have access to modern, elegant, sophisticated and sometimes fun clothes and what she gets is a a terrible mess.

Why? I might add that the princes get suits that are almost always right – the right fabric, the right cuts, beautifully tailored. Their suits elevate their average looks while her clothes and especially her styling seem to work against her natural beauty.

    • SomeChick says:

To be fair, compared to women’s garments, suits are ridiculously simple, tho.

She just needs some damn hem weights. Isn’t “lack of hem weights” a protocol violation?! Or, nah.

A longer, less flouncy line would also help. I can also see the jacket paired with black separates and looking just as elegant.

Not a fan of D&G anyhow so perhaps this will go back into the closet.

  10. Mia4s says:

Good lord! They’re forcing this woman to work almost nearly full time! How will she manage?! 🙄

Seriously I wonder how long this will last? It feels very calculated….but not by her. Also she’s not interesting enough to maintain long term interest for non-royalists. Now that Prince Andrew is back in the news they better find some extra ribbons for her to cut or whatever. Parade the kids out! Quick! 🙄

  11. Red Weather Tiger says:

Kate looks exhausted. Working several days in the same month has got to be grueling.

    • teehee says:

I know right LOL poor drone of the institutional PR machine.
They really are in overdrive now, arent they.

“We’re not evil! Look we did an event!”

Sure, like we gonna forget what just happened.

    • Joanna says:

      *snort* lol

  12. Florence says:

Wow such keen, many frump, so gurn.

  13. Kay says:

So I guess she didn’t heed her majesty’s advice regarding hem weights…

    • Sass says:

Kind of hard to add hem weights when it’s got a frayed hem 😂 this outfit is a whole mess

      • February Pisces says:

I think the hem is like that cos she un-picked the weights in her skirts the day Meghan left. 😂😂😂

      • (TheOG)@jan90067 says:

Considering how she frequently changes an outfit found online into a “bespoke” version, they could’ve added a liner to the skirt, and put the weights in there. There’s almost *always* a solution if you’re looking for one.

      • Sass says:

        @february Pisces omg hahahaha 😂

@the og I was making a joke about how truly hideous the outfit is, I know you can add weights to this monstrosity, I’ve done costuming for lots of productions including The Nutcracker.

  14. MeghanNotMarkle says:

I despise this outfit. The fit is wrong. The skirt is too short and too twee. But it’s Kate so I’m not surprised.

    • Harla says:

I’m quite a bit older than Kate and skater skirts are my favorite but I don’t think the jacket is doing it any favors.

  15. Erin says:

Three (fairly) large initiatives were announced after that. William’s Earthshot Prize, the Survey, and the RPS Exhibit announced yesterday. So far I think they’ve delivered on their “big announcements.”

    • THeCat'sMother says:

And that is all they shall remain: announcements…

      • Erin says:

For the RPS exhibit they released Kate’s two photos, and they released 2 more after that (taken by members of the RPS). The rest of the 75 portraits will be taken over the next several months. There was a really nice article about it by the guy who first approached the palace about it. So that’s actual movement, not just an announcement.

    • Powermoonchrystal says:

Ha, I read Earshot prize! Didn’t it have a nicer name when announced?

  16. LolaB says:

Wait, where’s her big ass ring?

    • olive says:

good eye – have we ever seen her not wearing it at an engagement??

    • Guest with Cat says:

Someone recently pointed out it no longer fits properly. It is loose and was wobbling around on her finger. So it is either being resized or she’s shelving it until she gains some weight.

Honestly I would drink a toast to her if she would ditch Ol’ Blighted permanently…Oh, and Diana’s sapphire ring, too.

    • Harla says:

She usually takes it off when visiting hospitals.

      • Maria says:

I could only find one previous hospital visit where she took it off, in January 2018. She does wear it to most visits.

      • Guest with Cat says:

You’re right. I just saw on my newsfeed a headline from People magazine. She takes it off so she can adhere to the hospital regulations for scrubbing up.

      • Marie says:

But why does she take it off? It’s not like she is doing surgery. She is just visiting.

    • aria says:

omg she is only wearing her gold ring. she usually wear diana, gold and geroge birth ring (whatever it is) three rings. in 8 years i never saw her wearing only one ring. my theory is meghan wears only gold ring alone sometimes, she is copying meghan with those long skirts, knee length boots, back and grey color dress, pants etc. why she is copying meghan lately. to get back at william for rose bush , to dress like a woman who william hate the most.

  17. leigh says:

Two wardrobe repeats in two days. Pulled back hair two events in a row. Carole must be telling Kate to present as thrifty and dutiful now that the press has no other young female royal to go after. And, considering her tendency to theme dress, I wonder why she went for dark tweed for a children’s hospital visit when her first instinct would be polka dots and bright colors to appeal to the kiddies?

    • Nic919 says:

Her clutch last evening was £1200 so the money went there and the thriftiness of a repeat dress frittered away.

  18. Guest says:

That skirt is too short and hello wind.

  19. carmen says:

I just skimmed through the People article and got the impression that she was not merely attending the workshop to watch others but she was there teaching children photography. If correct, then I am impressed as this is a departure from what she usually does isn’t it? – i.e. shaking a few hands and “learning” and “observing” as others do the actual work.

  20. Digital Unicorn says:

It was very wet and windy in London yesterday and she wears a floaty skirt that she has to hold down, yeah GF is going back to the days of flashing everyone.

  21. Mac says:

I believe the big announcement was the Earthshot Prize.

  22. Trish-a says:

That little girls face is a MEME! When they tell you you are going to meet a real life princess. Uh huh where’s Meghan? God it’s priceless!!!

  23. Onomo says:

Is it inappropriate to say she looks…haggard?

  24. Barcelona says:

Anyone else notice how these two last events with children, Kate has been photographed with Black British children? Although both girls have been really adorable, it’s just a little suspect.

    • aria says:

i was planned by palace not to look like racist. also i was never comfortable with people of color . but in coming months she and rest of brf will do all kinds to include the people of color.

    • Rachel says:

I’m sure when they plucked her from the crowd they made a point of seeking out the black kids 🙄
Seriously though, over the years how many black friends have you seen any of the young royals with?

      Thought so 😼

    • MellyMel says:

I thought this too. Very obvious choice and I’ll leave it at that.

    • HK9 says:

I noticed it too and I don’t like it. If you can’t deal with your own sister-in-law, leave the black/brown kids alone. We know what that’s about and we see you.

    • The Original Mia says:

It’s an obvious decision to use a black child. Look at us embracing these black children. Forget we ran our black relatives out of the country.

    • kerwood says:

Kate usually has a ‘Strategically Placed Black/Brown Child’ placed in pictures but it looks like they’re going to dial it up to 11 in the next little while. Black/Brown children will be ripped from their parents arms to pose with Keen Katie.

It looks like this particular ‘Strategically Placed Black Child’ is a Meghan fan.

      • bamaborn says:

Kerwood…that little girl’s face was priceless!! Like “who is this and why should I care?” Lol

  25. Chimney says:

She is regressing fashion wise after barely dipping her toe into dressing like a fashionable woman her age. I don’t understand how anyone would be comfortable in a skirt that short for a work event? I’d be pulling it down all day

    • Chrissy says:

Yes, she managed to drag herself into the 21st century with her clothing choices when Meghan was getting praised for her style. But now that Meghan is gone, she’s returning to clothing appropriate either for a twenty something or a matron. Hmmm!

  26. Sass says:

Oh no the skirt blew up! Lol!

She looks like Cher Horowitz from Clueless in that get up. 😬

  27. Nic919 says:

That girl in the last photo is the true queen.

  28. Valiantly Varnished says:

There goes her skirt flying in the air again. How has she still not figured out how to prevent this by weighting her skirts.
And that little girl’s face says it all. She’s like, “I was hoping for Meghan but Im stuck with her.”

  29. Cidy says:

Lord this outfit is riding the struggle bus.

  30. MellyMel says:

I despise this outfit just like before. That skirt is just not IT. I wish she would wear pencil skirts (which would look amaze on her figure) or bring back the trousers.

  31. Charfromdarock says:

That little girl knows what’s up!

  32. The Original Mia says:

Twee skirt and she’s nearly 40. Okay, say it’s a fashion choice. It’s not a sensible choice due to the wind. And what’s up with the frayed hem? Was it like that the first time she wore it?

  33. Bohemian Angel says:

Black folks need to wake up and stop letting their children be used like this. We all know these people don’t like our kind, they couldn’t even tolerate half black Meghan! If it were me I would tell the school/hospital etc I don’t want my child photographed. Its so bloody obvious what they are doing, pretending they are not racist and didn’t run their only black member out of the family and country. We black people are just helping set up their ridiculous narrative and doing injustice to the Sussexes and all black people. STOP LETTING THEM USE US FOR THEIR OWN AGENDA!!!

    • kerwood says:

@Bohemian Angel, I agree. These are people who think it’s ACCEPTABLE and FUNNY to call a Black child a ‘monkey’. They drove the only person of colour in the British royal family, out of the fucking country. No Black person and especially NO BLACK CHILD should go within a mile of these people.

      • Bohemian Angel says:

The problem is KERWOOD we do not know how to have a proper conversation about racism here for fear of being accused of using the ‘race card’. Because what Kate is doing here is racist, using a black child as a prop for her own gain but white people won’t see that, they will see a little girl pleased to meet a real life ‘princess’ despite the girl’s face saying something different. To be honest I will also say fellow black and brown people will pretend there is no racism there. We POC are so behind in this country about not calling out shit just because it’s not in your face. Look how there isn’t any noise about the obvious racism Meghan faced from that family and how they protect the white child rapist, nobody is saying anything only behind closed doors from what I can tell.

      • kerwood says:

@Bohemian Angel, I can feel your frustration, but that’s a hard conversation to start. I think more Black and Brown British people feel the way you do than you know. But when you see someone like the Duchess of Sussex being torn apart, the average person wonders what will happen to them. Maybe that’s part of the reason WHY the Duchess of Sussex was such a target.

There’s a substantial second/third generation of Black Britons in the UK now. These aren’t people who refer to somewhere in the Caribbean or Africa as ‘home’, like my parents did. For these people, people like my cousins and you, home is England. What with the turmoil of Brexit and the rise of White supremacy, I’m sure there are a lot of people who worry about what would happen if those Black and Brown people started feeling their political and social power. A lot of British people want to go back to the days when England was all White. But there’s no going back now.

The little girl in this picture is the NEW FACE OF ENGLAND. She’s standing toe to toe with the ‘English Rose’ and she’s not that impressed. Maybe she’s overheard her parents talking about the royal family. Or maybe she’s got good taste and knows what a disaster that outfit Keen Katie’s wearing is. Either way, the people who run England are scared of that little girl taking a look behind the curtain and seeing nothing there.

  34. Victoria says:

Trousers would have been a lot better. And that little girl’s face!! 🙂

  35. Delphi says:

Tatler does say Edwina Iddles was an MP but I can’t find anything to support that. She’s not listed on theyworkforyou.com or anywhere else. She was an assistant to a Tory/Conservative MP and worked for the Tory government, which shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone who knows anything about the Royals and the British aristocracy. The bizarre thing is her political background – she worked for Caroline Dinenage who voted to make things significantly worse for young people in Britain (end financial support for 16-19 year olds in training, raise tuition fees to their current unaffordable levels), voted against measures to prevent climate change, voted against raising benefits and helping disadvantaged people and so on.

Iddles is not responsible for Dinenage’s votes, but that is the MP and the government she aligned herself with and supported. Her political background is completely at odds with EVERYTHING William and Kate say they stand for, and all the causes they promote. It exposes how little they actually care about these issues and making a real effort to make people’s lives better.

    • A says:

I was actually just about to go off and look into Edwina Iddles’ background as an MP. Surprising that she wasn’t one at all, just an assistant to one, but the Tatler states that she is anyway. Weird.

And the stuff you outlined is exactly why I wanted to go find out about her in the first place. My mind started ringing alarm bells as soon as they said she was a Tory MP. You are absolutely right–they probably hired her because she came “highly recommended” by some rich posh toff (just a slapdash bit of nepotism y’know). And she lent her services to an MP that supports appalling policy positions.

I was just reading a reddit thread about a man who had social anxiety, had his benefits cut off, and died in his apartment without anyone knowing. In the thread, someone had commented about how someone they knew worked for the DWF, and talked about a couple with a disabled child who they wanted to get benefits for. Long story short, the husband worked at first, then quit a few years into his job, and his wife took over the position and he stayed at home to care for their daughter. They forgot to notify their office, were caught for “fraudulently” collecting benefits, had their benefits completely cut, and told that they needed to pay back the last fifteen years worth of payments before they’d be allowed to apply for benefits again.

Anyone who supports an institution that does this is a person who is, as far as I’m concerned, in favour of outright murder. I’m not saying that Edwina Iddles is the person who votes for these types of things, but you can guarantee that her and the people in whose circles she is in all think the exact same thing.

  36. aquarius64 says:

The black girl’s face – PRICELESS.

Kate’s face from the car. You got rid of your rival Meghan who would have made that girl smile. Suck it up Buttercup you have to
    earn your keep now.

  37. sparker says:

Kate needs to stop using Black kids as props, please. Did she get explicit instructions and no feedback about the actual optics on this?

    • carmen says:

Anyone who thinks it’s a coincidence that a little black girl was chosen to greet her is incredibly naive.

    • yinyang says:

Yes, getting tired of this white woman being shoved down the world’s throat. The British Roayl family was the biggest profiter from the slave trade, if you ignore it doesn’t change facts.

  38. Guest with Cat says:

I can’t comment on Kate’s fashion here. Zzz.

But that little girl! I love the sweater, jeans and short boots combo. I have adult versions of clothes that are similar and I am now inspired to pull them together for the coming weekend.

It is often the case, as I look at these photos of royal engagements, that I’ll find the perfect style on a bystander and not on any of the royals.

My favorite looks come from Doria when she’s dressed up for formal engagements. I’m hoping Sussexit doesn’t mean we will never again see her dressed up formally. She was the most exquisitely styled woman in the Christening photos. I’ve never seen her with a bad fit or looking like the fashion was wearing her. And she looks so confident and royal herself.

It gives me hope, because when she is running around casually and getting her pictures taken by paparazzi, she looks as Josie Average as I do. But when she dresses up, she’s radiant. Some of that is the fashion. But some of that is how she holds herself straight with confidence and determination to shine. There’s much to be learned from her. I hope we see some more of her style, but not in circumstances that intrude on her privacy or impose on her in any way. I just hope she will do a few appearances with Meghan in the future.

  39. Tangie says:

Hair and makeup on point. Her eyebrows weren’t as filled in as the Holocaust Remembrance event. If only she would wear pants when it’s windy and not just to SWF her SIL.

  40. Kyra says:

    $12?

  41. Miriam says:

    I see they’re still using black kids🙄
The cute girl in the last picture is all of us eye rolling katiekeen’s “work” since SUSSEXIT. She is apparently going back to her vintage cosplaying style🤭 or perhaps with Meghan no longer a working royal she figured Meghan will be updating her style so she’s waiting for her to get inspiration🙄

  42. Florence says:

It astounds me that she’s spent thousands on cosmetic surgery and yet still has a fat nose tip and saggy cheeks.

  43. Elizabeth says:

Would someone like to post yet another comment about Meghan’s great crime being that her clothes didn’t fit right?

    Eye roll.

  44. Elizabeth says:

    A Tory. Of course. Vomit.

  45. Jules says:

She’s just so not into any of this…
