Weis helps lead Rockets to 2nd straight district title

Alexa Weis won the 300 hurdles and Oak Harbor was first in two relays as it earned its second consecutive Division II District 1 track crown Friday.

Andrea Cecil, Rebekah Rayburn, Karis DeWalt and Athena Eli won the 4X200 relay while Weis, Rayburn, DeWalt and Eli took the 4X100. Cecil replaced Allie Jett, who the Rockets are optistic will return from a hamstring injury at some point in the postseason.

Rayburn and Ceil also moved on in the long jump, Jordyn Dunn advanced in both throwing events, and Ally Bloomer and Cecil moved on in the high jump. Eli, DeWalt, Annie Quisno and Abby Dornbusch advanced in the 4X400 relay while Dornbusch, Makayla Wagner, Taylor Dunn and Quisno moved on in the 4X800.

"Filling in on the relay is a pleasure," Cecil said. "For jumps, I couldn't seem to find the one great jump."

McKenzie Pluto won the pole vault earlier in the week while Addie Barton was third. Faith Konieczny moved on in the shot put, Dornbusch in the 400, Quisno in the 800 and Weis in the 100 hurdles.

Wagner was fifth in the 800 to just miss advancing.

Bellevue's Lauren Turner won the 800 and was on two first-place relays. Mariah McPeak, Liz Ish and Michaela Fox rounded out the 4X400 relay while Kyle Vogel, Ish and Fox were also on the 4X800 relay that moved on as the Lady Red finished second overall.

"It was a realy exciting day for my team and I," Turner said. "We qualified for regionals in a good amount of events and I'm excited to see what next week brings for us. It was a big meet for us."

Bellevue's Kaylia Reesman finishes third in the girls 100-meter hurdles Friday.

Laiken Tester was a district champ in the long jump and moved on in the pole vault, Kaylia Reesman advanced in both hurdles and Taylor Waldecker moved on in the 3,200. Fox and Vogel advanced in the 1,600, McPeak in the 800 and Ish in the 400.

McPeak, Madison Andrews, Ish and Vivian Benedict advanced in the 4X200 relay while Hannah Weasner just missed in the 3,200.

Tyler Sievert won the 1,600, Cole Weirich advanced in the 100 and Jake Wistinghausen in the 3,200 as Oak Harbor's boys were second. Cody Pfeiffer moved on in the 110 hurdles,

Weirich, Isaiah Jefferson, Thomas Loope and DeShawn Johnson moved on in the 4X100 relay while Jefferson, Johnson, Nick Damron and Weirich advanced in the 4X200. Wistinghausen, Collin Hayslett, Weirich and Sievert advanced in the 4X400.

Clyde's Collin Rieman won the 400 while Zach Rieman also advanced. Mathew Gerber, Joe Bair and the Riemans won the 4X400 relay while Zach Marcha, Bair and the Riemans moved on in the 4X200 relay and Collin Mange in the discus as the Fliers' boys were third.

Bellevue's Maurice Barnhouse, Seth Linder, Dakota McPeak and Quinton Brimmer moved on in the 4X100 relay.

Loope (110 hurdles), Linder, Brimmer, McPeak and Mike Pierce (4X200 relay), Sievert, Mark Bodi, Tim Poiry and Wistinghausen (4X800), Clyde's Austin Baker (pole vault), Mange (shot put) and Oak Harbor's TJ Lawrence (discus) were fifth.

Clyde's Wollenslegel moves on in four

Clyde's Paula Wollenslegel qualified to regionals in both hurdle events, the high jump and on a 4X400 relay at Division II District 2 track.

"As a team, we really performed well," Wollenslegel said. "I am very proud of all my teammates that made it on to regionals. Breaking the (school's) 300 hurdle record (45.81 seconds) was farthest from my mind after the first track meet, but it became a goal I wanted to achieve. I am excited to make it to regionals in all four events."

Dominique Loparo, Olivia Hammons and Alicia Carter joined Wollenslegel on the relay. Loparo qualified to regionals in the pole vault and Summer Belcher in the discus.

Loparo, Haley Robinett, Carter and Renae Eberly moved on in the 4X200 relay. Wollenslegel was a district champ in the 300 hurdles.

Hammons was fifth in the 1,600 to just miss moving on.
