Lanzillotti Adds to Honors, Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior Alexis Lanzillotti (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill) of the Manhattanville College women's outdoor track and field team added yet another academic honor to her resume on Friday, as the senior sprinter earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country team, as selected and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Lanzillotti was named a first-team selection in District 3, making her one of only 10 Division III student-athletes to receive the honor in one of eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. As a result of her selection, Lanzillotti advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be selected early next month.

Lanzillotti's selection is the first in the history of the Manhattanville cross country and track & field programs and makes her the 20th student-athlete in department history – and the third this spring – to earn Academic All-District recognition. She is the 11th Valiant to earn Academic All-District honors in the last five years, more than doubling the amount of honorees in program history since 2011.

Lanzillotti earns the honor after a stellar four-year career both on the track and in the classroom for Manhattanville. Off the track, she was named the 2015 MAC Outdoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a seven-time Dean's List honoree. The economics and political science double major entered her final semester with a 3.88 cumulative GPA and was given Manhattanville's 2014-15 Athletic Director's Award last month for her time as President of the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and her work as a student ambassador for the "Give More HUGS" non-profit organization.

On the track, Lanzillotti is the owner of seven program records, including four marks as an individual. She was named Manhattanville's Female Rookie of the Year in 2011-12 after ending her first season with seven track individual program records to her name. The senior also is a four-time ECAC Championship qualifier and an eight-time All-Middle Atlantic Conference honoree, led by four individual second-team honors and three combined All-MAC honors at the 2015 MAC Outdoor Championships.

The Capital One Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-America selections for Division III will be announced on June 23, with Lanzillotti looking to become the sixth Academic All-American in program history.
