Currently iPhone 6/6s has a 2x Retina 4.7-inch screen (326 ppi) and iPhone 6 Plus/6s Plus has a 3x Retina 5.5-inch screen (401 ppi).

When iPhone 6/6s users enable the 'Display Zoom' setting on their device:

"it reduces the logical screen size from 375 × 667 to 320 × 568 points (the same as the iPhone 5/5s/SE) ... The end result is a slightly blurry image which, unlike the ever-present-but-practically-invisible loss of image quality on the 6 Plus, looks clearly worse than the non-zoomed image at normal viewing distance."

Knowing this, will Apple release both iPhone 7 in the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch as 3x Retina devices to prevent noticeable loss of image quality?

Yes the iPhone 7 should get the higher pixel density, and the 7 Plus should get Retina @4x or at least a native resolution screen. If the screen resolutions do not change on the iPhone 7, it'd be the first time since the 3G on a non-S version iPhone.

Apple will still go with the 326ppi or 720i screen resolution for the SE and 4.7" size models since it will save them around $5 per unit for low grade screen and save big time on not having to go with the improving the battery technology - maybe $6 per unit for state art battery ! I be happy if they could bring up to at least 1080p, that of the cheapest HDTV screen resolution! Apple has been using this 326ppi standard since iPhone 4S back in 2009. Only the 5.5" flagship has the 1080p screen resolution.

I get your point, but iPhone 4s was released in 2011... the 3GS was released in 2009...

I beg to differ.

The iPhone 6+ gets the higher screen resolution because it can afford the higher power consumption. The larger form factor of the 6+ allows for a larger battery.

There is no unicorn battery that magically lasts 10 times as long as the rest. The only way to get longer battery life is to literally brute force it and include a larger battery.

You want a higher screen res, the phone becomes thicker and heavier to compensate. I am not saying that I don't want a better resolution, but people seem to think that this will magically happen without any sort of compromise to go along with it.
