Tennessee and Alaska are the only states in the country with a higher tax on beer, a Tax Foundation survey shows.

Alabama has a state beer excise tax rate of $1.05 per gallon, according to the survey.

The highest tax rates are mostly concentrated in the Southeast. After Alabama are Georgia ($1.01), Hawaii ($0.93) and Kentucky ($0.83).

The study does not include local taxes for most states, but does so for Alabama and Georgia because local taxes are legally required to be uniform in those two places.

Wyoming, Oregon, Colorado, Wisconsin and Missouri had the lowest taxes, each under $.10 per gallon.

The Tax Foundation's survey is based on data collected by the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States.
