What is the worst city for mosquitoes?

Mary Bowerman
USA TODAY Network
Mosquito season is here.

Summer is almost here, and with the longer days and warm weather come the mosquitoes. The Atlanta area is the worst city in the U.S. for mosquitoes, according to a ranking of the top mosquito cities in the United States by the pest control company, Orkin.

Chicago takes the second spot and Washington, D.C., comes in third.

The top 20 rankings are based on the number of customers that bought mosquito control services from the company in 2014.

Nine of the top 20 mosquito cities are in the Southeast, according to the ranking.

The prime months for mosquitoes are June, July and August though mosquito season can extend into October in the Southern part of the U.S., according to Orkin. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, no one is safe from mosquito-borne illnesses like West Nile Virus.
