A 10-year-old boy got the homecoming of a lifetime on Thursday.

His Chandler community stepping up on short notice to give him the hope he needs to fight a sickness no child should face.

Community members described it was a race against the clock to send a special message.

“We only got a couple hours to get a lot of signs in,” said neighbor Doug Morrison.

One aimed at a little boy in the fight for his life.

“As a mom, it’s the most gut-wrenching thing I could imagine,” said Nikole Page. “Having support and a lot of positive energy can help the healing process.”

If you’ve ever been touched by it, you know, cancer sucks. At 10-years-old, Kameron Sherman has already beaten it once.

But when it returned for a second time, his neighbors decided to join in the fight with him.

“Now he’s having to go through it again and we just need him to know you’ve got this, you can do this,” said a neighbor Laney Burns. “This idea came together on a quick Saturday morning, with us maybe putting a ribbon on the front gate for him.”

But what began as a small effort mobilized into an army of heart. Over two hours later, 90 signs embossed with Kameron’s name were plated on every house and every corner, balloons hung around his home.

“They say it takes a village and it’s totally true, and this is our small village,” said Molly Stanley.

As dozens who care for him lined the streets, Kameron’s parents drove into the neighborhood after his latest Chemo Therapy appointment, Kameron waving from the back seat.

“I can’t believe they made all these signs for me all over the neighborhood, with my name on them,” said Kameron with excitement. “It gives me a little bit more strength to know I have people behind me and encouraging me to go through all this.”

Along with the warm welcome, neighbors also raised and donated $1600 dollars to his family towards medical expenses.
