Summer Hair Inspiration: Fendi’s Cornrow Braids

Looking for a cool way to wear braids this summer? Let the 2016 Fendi resort collection lookbook be your guide. The Italian luxury brand released photos of it’s latest collection this week, and while the clothes and accessories are ranking high on my wish list (I’ll take the bejeweled sandals in an Italian 39, please), it’s those tough-yet-pretty cornrow braids I’m really lusting after. And what better time to experiment with a new style than summer?

If there is one thing to know about braids, it’s that they always work better with a little bit of grip aka second-day hair. But if you can’t resist shampooing on a hot day, there are a few products that can help add that much-needed texture. Redken global creative director Guido Palau used Redken Braid Aid 03 Defining Hair Lotion ($25) to create texture at the fall 2015 Valentino and Dolce & Gabbana shows. A few pumps of the lotion applied from mid-lengths to ends will make your braid last all day. Dry shampoo is also great for adding grip and texture to hair before braiding — in the office we are big fans of Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo ($22).

While I might have to enlist my BFF to help me totally master the look (Confession: I’m a beauty editor who still can’t do a French braid), this will be my go-to style on a hot summer day.
