Scenic Easement Monitoring Volunteers Needed

Thank you to all our past and current volunteers. We couldn't do it wihtout you!

We're seeking volunteers to help with a Scenic Easement Monitoring Program. We are committed to helping the National Park Service monitor over 1,200 separate easements held in the Riverway. These properties should be visited annually. The purpose of the visit is to maintain good relationships with property owners, ensure accurate records, and document the condition of the land within the easement.

As an SCRA Scenic Easement Monitor, you will conduct site visits alongside a National Park Service employee or summer intern. During that visit your job would be to have a positive interaction with the property owner, and document the current condition of the site. Volunteers will NOT be making judgement calls as to whether or not the land is adhering to established guidelines.

All volunteers will are required to complete a training session. This training program was designed in collaboration with the Minnesota Land Trust, utilizing a tried and true methodology.

Training Date:
  • June 4, 2015
  • 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
  • SCRA Offices
  • Snacks & refreshments provided
Please indicate if you are interested in becoming an easement monitor by contacting Jenny Makosky at jennym@scramail.com or 715-483-3300.

ProjectRED Training

Anglers and paddlers! Protect your river. Do your part to help detect invasive plants and animals in the St. Croix River. Become a Riverine Early Detector and monitor the St. Croix River and its tributaries for 16 invasive species by canoe, kayak, or on foot.

During a Project RED training you will learn which invasive species threaten your local rivers, how to differentiate them from native look-a-likes, and how to keep an eye out for them by canoe, kayak, or on foot.
