In celebration of Spring Bike to Work Week’s kickoff on Monday (May 29), HUB Cycling and Vancouver Civic Theatres are hosting a free open-air screening of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial this Saturday (May 27).

The beloved sci-fi film will be screened at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza (650 Hamilton Street), where attendees are encouraged to arrive by bike. A bike valet, snacks, and giveaways will also be available. Guests should note that the screening will not go ahead if there is rain.

Given that growing up in the ’80s seemed to involve little more than causing havoc around the neighbourhood by two-wheeler (see also: The GooniesStranger Things, etc.), E.T. is a pretty fitting movie choice for the occasion.

Spring Bike to Work Week takes place from this Monday (May 29) to June 4 around the city. Organized by local nonprofit HUB Cycling, the event features over 75 “celebration stations” around town equipped with complimentary refreshments, mechanic services, and prizes in an effort to encourage urban cycling. Cyclists who register and log their trips online during the week also have a chance to win prizes such as a brand new bike and a trip for two to Croatia.

For more information about the bike-in screening, or to RSVP, visit the event's Facebook page.
