Which delivers more square inches of mozzarella-topped deliciousness: A 16-inch pizza, or two 8-inch pizzas? If you don't think too hard about, then common sense would seem to suggest they're about the same. But, as this tasty video by ASAPscience clearly demonstrates, you should buy the one big pie to maximize your money‚ and it's not even close.

The reason is the simple formula from high school geometry, πr2. Because the radius is squared, the amount of area you get when you double the radius goes up by a lot more than a factor of 2. Where an 8-inch pizza delivers about 50 square inches of melty goodness, a 16-inch pizza puts up more like 200 square inches.

Want that leftover cold pizza in the morning? Buy the big pie, not the two smaller ones.
