Fashion & Beauty Blog – Summer Special Outfit of the Day “The Skirt Affair”
Having your Mid-Summer Blues? Why not wear Blue this Summer and add up some zing to your wardrobe? Navy blue is one of my favorite colour these days its seems to be topping the fashion charts this year. If you have closely followed the fashion weeks this year, you shall know that this year its all about “going retro with a contemporary twist”. 60’s and 70’s are back with more neat silhouettes, finer cuts and detailed craftsmanship. Colours like Navy Blue, Tangerine, Blush Pink and Mustard are trending this year. Its a fusion of carefree and classic!
When talking about the 70’s fashion, the first thing that comes to my mind are flared skirts and scarves. Mid length skirts were huge then and they have made a come-back this summer with the top designers like Valentino, Gucci & Ralph Lauren to name a few had sexy skirts slithering down the runway. How about having a Skirt Affair this Summer? Here are two different ways I have styled my Navy blue flowy skirt. Check out both the looks.
Casual or Party Style for Skirts
This navy blue skirt looks perfect for an afternoon walk or evening brunch, styled up with a Pink “no frills”top, an animal print sleek belt & matching scarf! I love leopard print in my accessories as they can make a boring or simple plain outfit a fun to wear. I always make sure to pair up my animal print glares and belt, however this time I have added a similar printed scarf to the lot and tried going a little over-board! However, I love the final look!
Since it is a Summer affair, I wanted to be all out and about with bling! Throwing caution to window, Isn’t that what whole carefree look is all about? The best part about this skirt is that it hides my growing belly and the pretty belt accentuates the look.
One of the style hack’s that has been working for me lately is the rounding up of the sleek belt. I have always been bothered by the loose part of the belts hanging weirdly when I wear them over a skirt or shorts without side hooks for that matter. If you know what I mean, you will surely love this style hack, where you just need to round up the loose end and bring it back to the buckle to form a cute bow.
Work-wear or Formal Style for Skirts
Here is another look where I styled up the flare skirt with a Blazer to give more of a formal work wear look. Here is how I colour blocked the whole look.
The fact that I am using all solid colours with plain textured outfits helps me to colour block the attire easily. The use of vibrant printed accessories is to break the monotony and plainness of the look. All the three beautiful colours Blue, Pink and Mustard Yellow compliment each other so well. I would love to try out some colour blocking with prints and patterns the next time.
The Mustard blazer not only compliments the blue skirt but also gives an edge to the whole look. This one can be a perfect plus size outfit where the Blazer accentuates my narrow shoulder blades, while the flare conceals the heavy bottom and makes me look lean and taller rather than fat and tiny.
I love the complete retro look the blazer gives to the overall outfit with its vintage cuts and gold buttons. The outfit pretty much fits the Quirky Work wear trend. There is a lot one can experiment with this look from getting all your hair up in a bun & minimal accessories “sophisticated look” to the more quirky accessorized look that I am sporting here.
The skirt is not only super comfortable but also has pockets to carry all your essentials, thus proving a great work wear.
Maternity/ Plus size Style Tip for Women
A beautiful skirt is not only apt for women of all sizes including the plus size women, but also great for concealing the early pregnancy baby fat. The skirt doubles up as a great maternity outfit for me in my early months of pregnancy where it hides my tummy and gives a leaner illusion because of its length and the dark colour. These are few simple tricks one can try to conceal the extra fat. Not that I advocate concealing to shedding weight, but at times it is required to dress according to your figure and such tips help you do that gracefully.
