Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears unveiled their new single “Pretty Girls” live for the first time at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, with a joint performance of the recent Hot 100 debut. Before the show started, we caught up with Azalea on the red carpet, and talked to her about working with a pop icon like Spears on a track.
“It’s not something that I ever anticipated happening,” Azalea told Billboard at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday night. “I loved pop music but I loved rap and I wanted to be a rapper. And I didn’t know I’d end up making such a crossover mesh of pop and rap where that would be a collaboration that would be possible.

“In the last two years I kind of transitioned my style so much to where that could be plausible,” Azalea continued. “So I didn’t when I was younger, but it’s really quite surreal.”
The Australian rap superstar also won an award on Sunday night for her No. 1 smash “Fancy,” featuring Charli XCX. “Pretty Girls” debuted at No. 29 on last week’s Hot 100 chart.
