Milos Raonic has reached his first grand slam final after the world No 7 stunned Roger Federer with a dramatic five-set win at Wimbledon.

Federer looked on course for victory when leading two sets to one but the Swiss was halted first by a thigh problem and then his gutsy opponent, as Raonic sealed a 6-3, 6-7 (3/7), 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 triumph.

Raonic will be the first Canadian man in history to play in the final of a major tournament, where he will face either Britain's Andy Murray or Tomas Berdych on Sunday.

Federer squandered three break points in the fourth set and fatigue may have caught up with the 34-year-old, who twice called the trainer to look at his thigh and had not played consecutive five-setters since 2013.

He lost the second of those to Murray, who is up second on Centre Court and aiming to set up a rematch with Raonic after beating the 25-year-old in the final at Queen's three weeks ago.

"We played in the final a few weeks ago and I said I wanted a re-match with him here," Raonic said. "I'm by no means done here with what I want to do."

Raonic says

"It's an incredible comeback from me. I was struggling through the third and fourth set.  On a little opening I managed to turn it round.

"It's great to be continuing and to have given myself the chance to play in my first final.

"[John McEnroe] told me to go out and leave it all out there. He gave me plenty of help today and I hope he has a lot more to give me on Sunday"

"I played Andy Murray in the Queen's final and I told him I wanted a rematch in a few Sundays. Maybe I'll sound like a genius if it happens."

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 Federer - Game, set and match Raonic

Two more huge serves and Raonic races to 30-0. And another! Three match points.

He's done it! Federer sends a forehand long and Raonic goes into his first ever Grand Slam final!

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 5-3 Federer (*denotes next server)

Quick as a flash, Federer holds. Raonic will serve for a place in the final.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 5-2 Federer* (*denotes next server)

Raonic his 142mph with his first serve and Fed sends a backhand around the outside but wide, and then another into the net. Another hold and Raonic is one game away now.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 4-2 Federer (*denotes next server)

So, what has Federer got here?

Well, he's being challenged by some great Raonic returns and though Federer bites back, Raonic brings up break point with another huge return. Federer coolly whips a forehand onto the sideline to save it - and goes on to hold.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 4-1 Federer* (*denotes next server)

You have to give Raonic credit for the way he has dealt with some massively pressurised moments in this match, namely with his biggest serves - and they come to his rescue again here. He backs up his break.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 3-1 Federer (*denotes next server) - Raonic breaks

A classy return from Raonic and Federer hitting into the net gives 30-30 and a sniff of a chance for the Canadian. Federer is aided by a shot that clips off the top of the net but he sends his next attempted winner wide.

What a rally at deuce! There must have been five shots I thought were going to win the point but each time the recovery is more astounding than the last. Federer takes a tumble and Raonic hits home to brings up break point, but the fall hurt the Swiss former champ and he needs a bit of treatment.

He is fine to continue and has no problem saving the break point - but he can't save the next one. He ends a back-and-forth  at the net with a cross-court winner! Raonic has the break.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 2-1 Federer* (*denotes next server)

Neither player is giving an inch here. Raonic drops a single point en route to another hold.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 1-1 Federer (*denotes next server)

Another impressive service game from Federer. He holds to love.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 Federer* (*denotes next server)

Raonic has a spring in his step, and he races to a hold of serve.

Medical help

A bit of fatigue, maybe? Federer is having his thigh massaged between sets.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5 Federer (*denotes next server) - Raonic wins the fourth

Federer rattles through his first three serves so quickly that Raonic can't find his feet. Big serve after big serve brings up 40-0 before Raonic finally produces a good return.

Then a couple of double faults and the crowd sense a bit of trouble for Fed. Raonic attacks a second serve and comes into the net. Federer hits a good pass but Raonic second guesses him and he has a set point.

Federer saves it with a great serve but Raonic responds with a pass to get another set point. Federer again saves it, but he hands Raonic yet another with an error.

And Raonic finally finds a winner as Fed comes into the net. We're going into a fifth set!

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 6-5 Federer* (*denotes next server)

Another wobble from Raonic, and a majestic backhand winner from Federer brings up 0-30.

Raonic gets back into it with a huge lunging volley and a big serve. Federer finds the net to hand Raonic the game. We are one game from another tie-break.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 5-5 Federer (*denotes next server)

Raonic wastes a good opportunity as he comes in to the net but he bounces back quickly with a couple of rasping returns. He goes after a weak Federer second serve but piles it into the net, before sending a straightforward forehand long. Federer holds with an ace.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 5-4 Federer* (*denotes next server)

Federer is looking to strike at the end of the set again. He comes in to the net to volley home for 15-30 and just misses with a backhand pass. The pressure is cranking up, though, and Raonic is feeling it - he goes long to bring up a break point.

But what a huge serve to save it. He could do with a few more of them - and he duly delivers to hold.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 4-4 Federer (*denotes next server)

I really wonder how Raonic finds a way back into this. Federer's serve is looking exceptionally strong, and even after a few brilliant returns the Canadian can barely get a foothold in the game. Another quick hold.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 4-3 Federer* (*denotes next server)

Raonic sends a forehand long and Federer senses a chance at 15-30.

A 144mph serve is enough for 30-30 and a 123mph second serve on the line give him the upper hand. He holds, but it was a little shaky.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 3-3 Federer (*denotes next server)

Raonic wants to attack what has been a reliable Federer serve, and a couple of passes hand him an opportunity at 15-30.

He wrestles it back to 40-30 before misplacing a volley for deuce. But two big serves win the game.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 3-2 Federer* (*denotes next server)

We actually get a few rallies in this game, and Federer takes advantage. He slaps a forehand return across Raonic before the Canadian puts one wide, bringing up two break points.

A big, kicking serve saves one, before Raonic hits a lovely dipping shot across court to save the second. A great serve-volley combination and a brilliant second serve secure a crucial hold.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 2-2 Federer (*denotes next server)

This is ridiculous. Only two points have been won against serve so far this set. Federer holds to 15.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 2-1 Federer* (*denotes next server)

New balls and Federer doesn't contribute anything to the first four points - two aces, an unreturnable serve and a double fault make it 40-15 before Federer gets a return in. But Raonic is quickly on it and it's another convincing hold of serve.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 1-1 Federer (*denotes next server)

Aaaaand Federer does just the same. Another hold to love in around a minute.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 1-0 Federer* (*denotes next server)

How Federer broke that serve I don't know. Love game.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 4-6 Federer (*denotes next server) - third set Federer

A couple of big Federer serves and a failed Raonic challenge gives Fed three set points. And an ace wins it. Federer takes the third set.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 4-5 Federer* (*denotes next server)

A big, confident service game from the Canadian - a mistimed half volley aside - and he holds, leaving Federer to serve for the set.

This feels like a good time to take note of Federer's custom London trainers.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 3-5 Federer (*denotes next server)

Raonic knows he needs a quick reply, and he is hitting well, but wastes a big opportunity, hitting a simple volley into the net, before sending a wild backhand wide. A big serve completes another hold to love.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 3-4 Federer* (*denotes next server) - Federer breaks

A Raonic shot cannons up in the air off the net and Federer takes advantage with a powerful backhand as he comes in to meet the loose ball. Raonic double faults and then Federer hits a beautiful cross-court forehand winner to bring up two break points.

A big serve saves the first, but after the players exchange ten shot rally, Raonic inexplicably miscues a backhand way, way off target. Federer has the break.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 3-3 Federer (*denotes next server)

Anything you can do I can do better, says Fed. He holds to love.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 3-2 Federer* (*denotes next server)

Federer nearly makes a brilliant backhand return that drops over the net but just the wrong side of the line, but Raonic's serve looks strong and reliable. A second serve ace wraps things up.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 2-2 Federer (*denotes next server)

First up is a big serve and a meaningful volley from Fed. Raonic overhits a backhand but then Federer completely misjudges a shot and it ends up in the crowd.

From deuce, Raonic wastes a great chance by hitting a forehand into the net and Federer holds with a lovely forehand that curls away from Raonic and into the corner. A good hold.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 2-1 Federer* (*denotes next server)

Another great recovery from Raonic at the first sign of worry. He misplaces a shot on the opening point, but from 0-15 wins four in a row to hold.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-7, 1-1 Federer (*denotes next server)

Federer piles a forehand into the net and then makes another mistake to give Raonic a half chance at 0-30. Federer then comes in aggressively to meet a decent Raonic return, then dispatches a forehand before Raonic sends a backhand wide. Another hold.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 Federer* (*denotes next server)

There is a bit of a delay between sets as Raonic takes his time to come back out onto the court after a toilet break.

He looks like he isn't quite concentrating as he sends his first forehand wide, but he recovers quickly to win four straight points and hold serve.

Raonic 6-3, 6-7 (3-7) Federer (*Denotes next server)

Oh, Raonic. Hits his forehand long and wide. Federer wins the tie-break, 7-3. Game on!

Alistair Tweedale will see you through until the end.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-6 (3-6) Federer (*Denotes next server)

Ace! Huge cheer for Federer.

And an even bigger one when he rags Raonic from one side of the court to the other, before finishing down the line. 6-3...

Raonic 6-3, 6-6 (3-4) Federer* (*Denotes next server)

Superb athleticism from Federer, but he's in recovery mode for the entire point. Raonic controls things with his powerful cross-court forehand, pushing Fed wider and wider until the Swiss, at full stretch and with racquet flung out desperately, slices his return back into the furthest corner of the net.

DOUBLE FAULT! Raonic! That's going to be costly. What a muppet. Oh my word. Scenes.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-6 (2-3) Federer (*Denotes next server)

Mis-hit from Raonic. Gets too much on his forehand, and directs it wide, to boot.

He then smashes his return into the net, very sloppy from the Canadian there. Could come to regret that.

We're on serve.

Raonic 6-3, 6-6 (2-1) Federer* (*Denotes next server)

An entertaining baseline rally, with Federer perhaps unlucky after a Raonic forehand kicks up at him from the baseline. He gets too much under his subsequent forehand, hitting it long.

A Raonic ace gives him the lead.

Raonic* 6-3, 6-6 (0-1) Federer (*Denotes next server)

Raonic comes into the net, Federer picks him off, backhand down the line.

Raonic 6-3, 6-6 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

A good start: Raonic takes Federer's forehand in the air and screws the ball past him to go 15-0 up. He then hares into the net after his first serve on the next point, and the sight seems to force Federer into hitting an errant shot, his backhand weak and directionless, and hitting the net.

An ace takes Raonic to 40-0. First serve cracks into the net, but he gambles on the second: Why not? He hits the ace. Tiebreak time!

Raonic* 6-3, 5-6 Federer (*Denotes next server)

A quick start from Federer, with a serve that forces Raonic out wide followed by a forehand directed into the other side of the court. But Raonic restores parity with an inspired piece of shot-selection of his own, his return forcing Federer to hit on the up, Raonic coming down hard on the lofted shot with a thumping forehand that snarls its way past the Swiss.

And then another superb shot! Raonic's commanding forehand down the line making up for Federer's ace that preceded it. The Swiss is undeterred though. He moves 40-30 up with another big first serve, and finishes Raonic off on the next point, picking him off after he charged forward to the net too early, hitting a low backhand which Raonic is unable to scrape up from off the turf.

Raonic 6-3, 5-5 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

Oh, what a sad way to conclude a superb rally! Federer's sliced backhand cuts across Raonic and looks to have won the point, but the Canadian does so, so well to stretch back - almost toppling over as he does so - and claw the ball back over the net. Federer hits another sliced shot, and Raonic, who is at this point in a position to recover, tamely drops his backhand into the net, duped by the flight of the ball. A shame!

Federer then wins the next point with a beautiful cross-court forehand, and then Raonic double-faults! The fourth time he's done that this afternoon, and it hands his opponent three set points. Raonic goes big on the first, battering Federer with huge forehands from the corner of the court before charging the net and saving face with the drop volley. He then defends a second using the exact same tactic! That was like watching a replay, and concluded in the same way, with a stretching Federer hitting his backhand into the net.

And then a big serve! Federer can't return it, and Raonic has just saved three break points. What an effort.

But Federer is going to get another chance thanks to another moment of magic, wresting control of the rally with a booming forehand, and then finishing things off with a perfectly weighted backhand down the line. Textbook. Can he break ... no! He mishits his backhand, the sound of the ball on the frame of his racquet making a horribly ugly sound, and Raonic then has an advantage thanks to the power of his first serve, which Federer fails to return.

One more big serve needed ... and Raonic delivers! Federer hits into the net, and can only reflect on the passing of four break points.

Raonic* 6-3, 4-5 Federer (*Denotes next server)

This is really high-class tennis: Raonic does well to return Federer's serve, only for Federer to blast his forehand back into the same corner, hopelessly wrong-footing the 25-year old. But both men then make avoidable unforced errors, and we're at 30-15.

Raonic is then back on terms with a big cross-court forehand which takes Federer by surprise, so it's a major shame when he ends the next rally with a sloppy forehand which goes long. Federer then punishes a flighted Raonic forehand with a beautifully struck shot down the line, and he gives it a big 'C'MON!' as he holds to 30.

How's this for a stat:

Raonic 6-3, 4-4 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

Ace. And then a gorgeous drop volley, picked up low and placed just beyond the flailing Federer. Superb. The next shot is almost as good, as Raonic rocks back on his heels and slaps Federer's return of serve back down the line. Another big serve seals it. Wow, that was easy. A result of the new balls? Or is Raonic hitting his stride?

Raonic* 6-3, 3-4 Federer (*Denotes next server)

A chance for Raonic? He shamelessly steals Federer's SABR tactic and wins the first point, much to Federer's surprise. The 34-year old wins the morale boosting rally that follows though, beating Raonic to the net and lunging for his passing shot down the line, successfully picking it up and pinging the ball past his outstretched opponent.

But again Raonic's aggressive strategy pays off, this time he seizes the initiative in a baseline rally by mixing up the pace, hitting a flighted shot from Federer with everything he can muster down the line.

Cue a disappointing couple of errors from Raonic, followed up by an unreturnable serve, which leaves a stretching Raonic crumpled in a heap in the corner of the court. There was no getting that back over the net. Federer holds, and he's 4-3 up in the second.

Raonic 6-3, 3-3 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

Not a bad way to start ... big serve out wide from Raonic which Federer hits into the net. And how many times have I typed that so far this afternoon? And then an ace. I think I've typed that even more.

Federer tries another one of those vicious returns down the line on the next point, but overdoes it, and the ball is both wide and long. With three game points, Raonic pushes the second serve, and double faults, but he should really be okay from this position. Yup, a massive serve finishes Fed off.

Raonic* 6-3, 2-3 Federer (*Denotes next server)

The longest rally of the match gets this game underway, with both men happy to trade blows from the baseline, unusually for this encounter. Eventually Raonic shows the intent to step forward, but he mishits his slice and it goes way out. Federer follows it up with an ace and a couple of big unreturnable serves. That took less than a minute, I think.

Federer is attempting to fight back in the second Credit: AP

Raonic 6-3, 2-2 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

Another superb point. And Federer panics half-way through the rally, I think. He was really throwing everything he could at the Canadian from the baseline, but Raonic had moved into the net and was chucking everything back at him, before opening him up with a drop volley hit the other side of the court. Federer is doing all the running here...

Ace. And then a similar point to the first, this time finished with a wonderfully angled backhand drop volley at the net, after Federer had blasted a forehand in the direction of his opponent. A big second serve is hit into the net by Federer, and Raonic holds. That was encouragingly quick for the Canadian.

Raonic* 6-3, 1-2 Federer (*Denotes next server)

Big serve out wide from Federer which Raonic can only screw into the net. His backhand return, hit deep and hard, wrongfoots Federer on the next point though, and the Swiss can't quite get the ball out from under his feet. His attempted slice hits the net.

But next up, he successfully changes the pace of the rally, happy to exchange a couple of big groundstrokes before charging forward and upping the ante. Raonic is taken by surprise, and hits long. Ditto on the next point, with Raonic getting too much on his backhand and Federer happy to watch it float long.

And then a complete air shot! Even Raonic has to have a wry smile at that one. That was on a second serve, too... Raonic simply misread it and swung his racquet through thin air, a good few inches away from the ball.

Raonic 6-3, 1-1 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

More of the same, please. Raonic serves big, Federer fails to return. 15-0. But less of that: the third double-fault of the match for the Canadian. 15-all.

A big serve out wide has Federer scrambling down low and his return plops harmlessly into the net. And again... this is another superb example of Raonic's serving power. He's already at game point.

Federer does return the next one, though, and Raonic's shot selection is curious to say the least. He elects for a sliced backhand drop shot, very casual, and it spins wide. Sloppy. But Federer mishits his subsequent second serve, and we're on serve in the second set.

Raonic* 6-3, 0-1 Federer (*Denotes next server)

Great start from Federer. Big first serve on the first point. And he moves forward on the second very quickly, to kill the point before Raonic can get himself into the rally.

Federer is likely going to start attacking the net more because Raonic is really winning the battle from the baseline, and he takes the next point with a lovely passing backhand down the line. He shows a nice turn of pace on the next point, with Federer almost catching him out with a cunning drop shot, but although Raonic reaches the ball, he prods it beyond the baseline.

Raonic fails to clear the net with a forehand on the next point, and Federer holds to 15.

Raonic 6-3 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

So, Milos now serving for the first set.

And what a first point! Both men exchange big baseline strokes, before Raonic comes into the net. Federer attempts the passing shot down the line... Raonic pats it down, back in his direction. Federer attempts to come across him, but again Raonic is there, poking the ball back at him. Finally Federer fails to jam one back over, and Raonic takes the early lead. A great rally.

An unreturnable serve puts him 30-0 up but he then sends a fairly routine forehand into the net, to his vocal disappointment. And then a double-fault! His second of the match, and it couldn't have come at a worse time. 30-all.

But he wins set point with a really brave bit of tennis, smacking a crosscourt forehand before coming into the net and finishing Federer off. Cue a customary piece of Swiss magic. Picking up a shot on the baseline and somehow keeping himself in the rally, and then dropping a looping forehand over the onrushing Raonic and into the corner of the court. Superb.

At deuce, Raonic really needs to keep his cool and get that serve going again. He does, taking the advantage with a forehand down the line after a big serve had put Federer on the backfoot. And then he wins it! Opening the master up and finishing him with another well-placed forehand down the line.

Raonic takes the first set

Milos Raonic wins the first set, 6-3.

Raonic* 5-3 Federer (*Denotes next server)

A quick start from Federer with a brilliant serve. He then darts into the net on the next point, but Raonic really puts a lot behind his passing shot, and the pace sees Federer's drop volley ping out of play. 15-all.

Ace.

Ace.

Federer responding with a brilliant serving display of his own here. His kick serve on second service on the last point dumbfounds Raonic, who for the second time this match gets his feet in a mess, and it's another quick hold.

Raonic 5-2 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

First blood to Federer when Raonic concludes an entertaining baseline rally by hitting a forehand marginally too flat. And then even more pressure on the Canadian, who hits an ugly forehand well wide and long under little pressure. 0-30...

How does he respond? With an ace, of course. 143mph. No biggie. He levels the scores with an unreturnable which Federer just about gets his racquet too, poking the ball into the first row of the Centre Court crowd.

And then another ace! Federer challenges, more out of hope than expectation, and HawkEye proves that the ball landed plum on the line. And then another unreturnable serve. Incredible. What a brilliant, brilliant way to play your way out of trouble.

Ugh? Wow!

Raonic is leading in the first set... Credit: Reuters

Raonic* 4-2 Federer (*Denotes next server)

Not a great start; Federer slips and smacks his backhand into the net. D'oh. He recovers with an ace on his second serve, not too fast (certainly not by Raonic's standards) but perfectly placed down the middle of the court and spinning away from the Canadian. He thinks he's aced again on the next point, but Raonic challenges, and the ball was out.

Raonic sends his shot long on the next point, and then Federer gets himself to 40-15 with a brilliant shot - a volley he hits whilst backpedalling, which lands across Raonic. He sprints forward on the next point, and it's a quick hold to 15.

Raonic 4-1 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

It's so important for Raonic to hold here... and he gets off to the best possible serve by doing what he has done best at this year's Championships, by putting his faith in serve and volley. Federer does get into the rally on the next point, but again, he gets that backhand wrong and thumps the ball into the net.

But now it's Raonic's turn to make a mistake, hitting an easy drop volley attempt into the net, after pummeling Federer with powerful groundstrokes. They're back on equal terms when Federer returns Raonic's 141mph serve back down the line with the uttermost precision: a wonderful shot.

So, Raonic cranks up the speed. 144mph on the next serve. Federer does well to get a racquet to it, but that's all that can be said for his return, which pings into the crowd. He gets it right on the next point, though, and for the second time this game he wins with an outrageous return down the line, using Raonic's own pace against him.

Raonic then aces - certainly a good time to bring out that party piece - but Federer pegs him back with a wonderful cross-court slice which wrongfoots Raonic. He wants to use his forehand but realises he doesn't have enough time to get around the ball, and ends up tamely backhanding it into the net.

Federer decides to turn the screw on the next point, darting forward to the net and volleying it back at Raonic, but his passing shot down the line is superbly placed. He then holds with an ace.

Federer is in trouble early on... Credit: PA

Raonic* 3-1 Federer (*Denotes next server)

Ah, Federer is so good from the baseline. Raonic sits one up slightly and Federer punches him into the corner of the court, before opening things up completely with a crushing forehand that Raonic doesn't even bother attempting to chase down. He's 30-0 up within seconds, but Raonic then has his first point against serve when Federer pushes his forehand long.

And then gasps when Federer makes his second successive mistake, slicing his backhand into the net for 30-all. Followed by break point! A superb backhand slice dupes Federer who slips slightly as he hits his return, which drops into the net.

A big moment for Federer this ... and he double faults! Well, well, well...

Raonic 2-1 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

A fantastic point! Raonic slices into the corner of the court and is in control of the rally, only for Federer to expertly turn defence into attack, slicing a shot of his own across court, which only narrowly goes wide.

Federer gets back on terms with a passing shot when Raonic attacks the net on the next point, with the Canadian unable to react quickly enough. He responds by thumping the first ace of the match, which leaves the great man sprawling.

He brings up game point with another textbook example of serve and volley, pushing Federer wide with the serve before beating him with a big forehand, and goes 2-1 up in the exact same fashion moments later.

Tense, this is very tense.

 Preach!

Raonic* 1-1 Federer (*Denotes next server)

Over to you, Fed. Raonic's first return goes long, and already a glimmer of frustration from Raonic: as he swots the ball away in frustration. Ditto the next two shots: big serves from Federer that Raonic pushes way beyond the baseline.

He holds to love when Raonic swots his backhand wide and long. Federer holds to love, and that took approx 90 seconds.

Raonic 1-0 Federer* (*Denotes next server)

Ping. Big first serve from Raonic, 139mph, that Federer clubs into the net. 15-0. Here we go...

But then a double fault from Raonic! Not entirely unsurprising as he does tend to push that second serve, but not an ideal start. He gets back on top by executing that serve and volley technique I pointed out earlier, though, stepping into the net to finish the next point early. And again, to go 40-15 up. Federer attempted a passing shot down the line there, but Raonic was just to quick to the net, shutting off the angle.

We then have the longest rally of the match, with both men exchanging baseline shots before Raonic attempts to up the ante, smacking a forehand down the line which he pushes wide. But he wins the next point with an unreturnable serve, and holds to 15.

A quick look at the H2H

And we're just about ready to go! Raonic won the toss. He'll serve.

10-0

A pretty formidable record.

Also, THIS:

I hope Raonic isn't paying him today.

The two men are out on court...

And they're both knocking up. An important few minutes, this, as both men furiously attempt to remember how to hit a tennis ball over a net.

Serve and volley

Watching Raonic play his way through the rounds this year has been something of a throwback, with the Canadian utilising  a highly effective serve and volley tactic, reminiscent of the strategy that carried so many players to glory in the eighties and early nineties.

Incredibly, Raonic has won 99 of 133 serve and volley points for the tournament (a 74% success rate), behind only renowned serve-volleyers Dustin Brown and Ivo Karlovic.

Stats from Raonic's previous run to the semi-finals, in 2014, show that he serve and volleyed only 33 times (with a similar 75% success rate), which goes some way to proving the suggestion that the adoption of the tactic is the brainchild of John McEnroe, who began working with Raonic ahead of the French Open.

Bargain alert?

For those of you wondering, Federer is currently at 3/5 with most bookmakers, with Raonic hovering around the 15/8 mark.

Meanwhile, to win the Championship...

  • Andy Murray: 4/7
  • Roger Federer: 3/1
  • Milos Raonic: 6/1
  • Tomas Berdych: 24/1 (24/1!!!)

The Tennis Podcast

Before the first of today's semi-finals, make sure you catch the latest episode of The Tennis Podcast.

Goran Ivanisevic — who coaches Marin Cilic — makes a guest appearance, talking of his devastation about his man's defeat to Federer, and the team also preview the two matches today.

Hello!

It's the gentlemen’s semi-finals day at Wimbledon, with Roger Federer taking on Milos Raonic, ahead of Andy Murray's match against Tomas Berdych, ahead of the final, on Sunday.

The great Federer is attempting to reach his 11th Wimbledon final today, an incredible feat with the Swiss only one win short of his 85th Wimbledon gentlemen’s singles victory. So often Federer's adoring fan base expect his march to the last four of a Major tournament to be a procession, and indeed his first four victories at the Championships this year were comprehensive results, but the 34-year old came through a significant battle in the quarter-final, against Marin Cilic.

Federer was forced to save three nerve-racking match points against the former US Open winner before mounting his tenth comeback from two-sets down, a sweat-soaked victory that the Swiss described as "epic" in his post-match press conference.

The 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 triumph set up a date against the Canadian, Milos Raonic, who overcame Novak Djokovic's conqueror San Querrey with a composed performance.

That's not to say that Raonic has had it all his own way at this year's Championships, however. He came through a five-set thriller of his own in the fourth round against David Goffin, fighting back from two sets down to win a 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 classic in just over three hours on No 2 Court. One of the strongest servers not only on the Tour but in the whole Open Era, Raonic will be a formidable opponent for Federer, and many are tipping the 25-year old to upset the odds and make his first Wimbledon final this year.

The match begins at 1.15pm, but make sure to stick with us for all the build up as well as for news around the courts this Friday morning.

What are they saying?

Lleyton Hewitt on Roger Federer

"For Federer still to be contending at his age, with how well he's played for so long as well, it's pretty amazing to watch.

"So much of that comes down to mentality as well as physical work.

"Physically you've got to do all the right things, look after your body, do all the right things all the time.

"There's a lot more times when you're not feeling close to 100 per cent as you get older, so you've got to push through that pain barrier.

"But mentally the stresses of travelling, having a young family, there's a lot of different priorities.

"So it's not just turning up and switching on your best tennis, you've got to do so much hard work behind the scenes and obviously playing a lot of the small tournaments as well.

"I think that's the toughest thing mentally."

What's the head to head between the two player?

Federer has won nine out of the 11 meetings, but Raonic came out on top the last time they played - a straight sets win in Brisbane at the start of the year.

On both occasions they've met on grass, including the Wimbledon semi-final two years ago, Federer has emerged victorious.

Who is the favourite to win?

Roger Federer 4/7

Milos Raonic 6/4
