Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea debuted the video for their smash single “Pretty Girls” earlier this week—and on Sunday at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, the pop stars brought the song to life in all its ’80s-loving, candy-coated flourescence.

Spears delivered one of her most energetic television performances in years: decked out in a leather-and-sheer fabric unitard, she shimmied around the stage as back-up dancers sporting skater gear moved around her. Azalea, meanwhile, held her own, reprising her role as some sort of alien figure in a silver space-age get-up. As for whether or not the two were lip-syncing their hit—doesn’t it even really matter?

Earlier this week, the stylist for the music video spilled behind-the-scenes secrets from the video. Alejandra Hernandez says the cult ’80s movie Earth Girls Are Easy was the biggest inspiration for the duo’s look.

“That was our biggest influence and inspiration,” says Hernandez of the 1989 cult classic co-starring Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans. “That, to me, was the ’80s at its coolest.”
