There's no sadder sight than when you've bought some freshly cut tulips and the moment you put them into a vase, they wilt. Don't worry, we've just come across a nifty little way of ensuring your beautiful flowers stay upright and looking gorgeous.

All you need is a penny.

A flower seller at London's famous Columbia Road Market told us to pop the coin into the bottom of the vase and then fill it with water.

The copper on the coin — an important micronutrient for plant growth — helps to keep the flowers strong and healthy and stop them drooping.

Some say that this is an old wives tale but others — including the tradesmen at London's biggest flower market, swear by it.

Hey, for the price of a penny, it's worth a shot!
