History

The land that the hotel is built on was once part of the residence of Kishū Domain, one of the major branches of the ruling Tokugawa clan family between 1603 and 1868. ANA InterContinental opened in 1986 as ANA Hotel Tokyo before rebranding as ANA InterContinental Tokyo in 2007. The hotel was built between 1983 and 1986, by the architectural firms Taisei Corporation and Kanko Kikaku as part of the ARK Hills development. It was named ARK as the complex is located at the intersection of the Akasaka, Roppongi, and Kasumigaseki districts.
