Do. Not. Use. This. Company!
I gave them my hard drive. They told me it was unrecoverable (which was odd because it wasn't damaged too badly) they lost a piece of my hard drive and can't find it.
When I am able to type without tears, I will finish.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kevin O.Castro Valley, CA584Nov 3, 2019
Mustafa found a corrupted hard drive on my laptop And promptly reinstalled a new operating system. I appreciated His due diligence in Finding and fixing A problem I did not know was there.

Reading some of the negative reviews, I want to point out that sometimes the data simply can't be recovered. Unhappy disks do bad things to data. My experience was very good, I recognized the signs of impending doom and brought the drive in before all hell broke loose. Communication and customer service was good. Most of their operation focuses on drives shipped in, but they help locals too. I brought them the drive I wanted them to copy to, and got it back in a week.
The analysis to get an estimate was free. They said the average cost was $500 to $1,500. That seemed reasonable considering the cost of replacing software, reinstalling Windows comma and the general inconvenience of buying a new machine and reinstalling everything. My cost was in the middle.
So far so good, but even though the OS was intact on the original drive, after hooking up the new drive, Windows 10 wouldn't boot. ...and this, my friends, is why Data Rescue Center gets an "OK" rating from me but not a superstar -- they recovered my *data* perfectly onto a new drive, but they didn't attempt to recreate everything (e.g. EFI bootable partitions) to the new drive. I asked whether they offer that as an extra service, and got no response. I tried to take the original drive and use OS migration software (the EFI partition has to be adjusted to match the new drive anyway), but the original drive wasn't really repaired, so the copy operation failed with a read error.
I ended up reinstalling the OS anyway, buying new programs where I couldn't figure out how to transfer the license from the old drive, etc. so not as great of a bargain as I had hoped.
Bottom line: They have better data recovery tools than you and I can download from the Internet, and they'll even recover your program files, but the OS won't boot so your program files may not do much good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tim T.San Jose, CA1015May 11, 2015
These guys are awesome! Especially Matt who provided us exceptional service. I've provided the hard disk and information that needed to be retrieved. It was done, simple as that. They've went out their way to keep me informed with all the processes. I never felt I was in a grey area or having the impression that i was being ignored for any of my questions or inquiries.
Thanks DRC!
Respectfully,

Thank you, thank you, thank you Data Rescue Center. I had a self-powered small peripheral hard drive that failed, like a mechanical failure kind of thing, not confused software issues. (OK I confess, I dropped it on the ground!) Data Rescue Center was very patient with me, and gave me great communication and follow-up throughout the whole ordeal, and saved ALL of the data on my drive. They work closely with OWC, which is also a company I recommend. They gave me a quote which they stuck to, which in my experience is not necessarily the case with data rescuing places. I always knew what was going on throughout the process, because I got emails with pix attached, plus me being in a panic I called also just to see how things were. I'm afraid I'm going to be sending another drive into them shortly if I can't get it to spin.
============
Adding to my review because now I've sent a second failed hard drive to them, and they rescued everything. Also, this second time was a different price because it was an easier rescue apparently, and I'm thankful they didn't charge the same price as the first time, knowing I'd pay it. The first time they had to reconstruct the drive before getting the data off. Honest, and great service.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - John Z.Dublin, CA17332153Aug 17, 2013
These guys are world class. I thought that I had completely lost the data on my hard drive after my laptop was smashed. After panicking and cursing myself, I reached out to the Data Rescue Center for help. They were absolute pros in that they walked me through the process, made all of the costs crystal clear, and then delivered as promised within a few weeks. They are also less expensive than many of their competitors.
I'll recommend Data Rescue Center to anybody needing a hard drive recovery service.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Robert J.Chicago, IL26410Jun 26, 2013
My boyfriend spent over a year consolidating his extensive CD collection onto an external hardrive. When that and the backup failed, I sent the drive to The Data Rescue Center. Despite a headcrash and some thrashing trying to read files off the drive myself (oops) they recovered 99% of his music.
They are less expensive than their competitors and offer personal customer service. While I hope to never need their services again I know they will be the first folks I'll call.

Turnout I found out my battery was swapped. My phone was not able to run since July this year. It stacked at the apple logo but it reboot itself after I installed IOS 10. Two days after I returned using my phone and I found out there was something lose inside. I took to mobile kangaroo in Pleasanton this morning. I was told the battery was swapped - not the original battery! Ha! You guys swapped my battery - I m so certain because I did not send the phone to this shitty shop and the Genius Bar. My phone was sheltered at this shop for 10 days before noticing me failure of recovery. I would guess this shop messed up my phone and had to replace it. Anyway, I don't have evidence so I can't do anything. But worth to warn ppl ...

First, we would like to apologize about your experience.
We are a full service data recovery lab, and provide no repair services for any hard drives or phones, our goal is to return our customer's data to them on a new external device. We will never erase a customer's data from their drive for any reason. We started this company to help our customers, who are in stressful situations, get their valuable information back. Unfortunately, we were unable to recover the data from your phone in this specific case due to the nature of your device failure.
However, in all cases, we will go through every possible procedure to recover the data before we give up on the drive, especially after a previous recovery lab has already evaluated or worked on the drive such as in your case. We apologize for the amount of time it took to come to the conclusion that your data could not be recovered, because unlike other recovery labs, we do not immediately give up on drives just because they are difficult. If there is only a slight chance of recovery we will still make the attempt, because our goal is always to retrieve your data.
We would gladly clear up any misinformation you may have if you call into our customer support line.
Again we apologize for your experience and any inconvenience this may have caused.Jul 29, 2016Previous reviewThey don't tell you they can not fix it and THEY ERASE YOUR DATA.
If you re searching for a data recovery center, and reading this. GO ELSEWHERE. I had the worst nightmare in my entire life with these guys. I still feel the pain when I m typing.
I drove to the shop three times in the past month after I discovered this place via Yelp. I sent my devices in for evaluation, and I was quoted for $850. Costly right? But I sent in anyways for the value of my data. 2 weeks later, on due date, I contacted CS, to be exact, for 3 times. The response was "your device was unrecoverable"
Omg! What did you guys do in the past two weeks? Eating popcorn and watching orange is the new black? Shouldn't you discover that on the initial evaluation not on the job due day?

The Data Rescue Center saved 8 years of work on my G-Drive. I would definitely recommend them for any data lost service. Their customer care service was friendly and very knowledgable. They kept me in the loop on every step of the way. I would say they are world class!

I know, backup, backup. backup! I am diligent about the work computers, but somehow 'forgot' to backup the home computer with 16 years of family pictures and videos. When the crash came, and it did, I thought all was lost. I took it to our regular guy who sent it to the Data Rescue Center, and they got all the data back. What was icing on the cake was the customer service. Prompt answers, friendly people, and a willingness to work with you.
I hope you never need this service, but if you do, I would highly recommend Data Rescue Center.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
