One of Alabama's top defensive targets will be making his commitment over the summer.

Craig Watts, a 6-foot, 180-pound safety from Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Fla., will commit on July 14. The date significance? It's his mom's birthday.

Watts is a four-star recruit in the 247Sports composite. He's ranked as the No. 280 prospect nationally, No. 15 safety and No. 41 prospect in Florida.

Florida State seems to be a favorite to land Watts, but don't count on Alabama. He visited Tuscaloosa for Alabama's A-Day game, and Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin recently visited his school.

Watts had a good chat with Alabama head coach Nick Saban while in Tuscaloosa.

"(He said) all he can promise is a great education and that I'll be competing against great athletes day in and day out," Watts told Scout.com after his Alabama visit.

Watts picked up an Ole Miss offer on Monday. Notre Dame and Ohio State are also among schools who have offered Watts. Alabama was in his top 10 as of last month.
